Recently, in WWDC 2021, Apple announced iOS 15, which is supposed to release with iPhone 12 and later devices. With this release, Apple has also discontinued the Apple TV Remote App from its App Store.

Now, the twist is that Apple has integrated this feature into the Control Center. Thus, now you will be able to control your Apple TV without even downloading an extra app. Furthermore, Apple has done a few modifications in its latest release of the remote controller Apple TV. Version 2.0 brought iPad support along with the retina display. Other features were shared libraries, AirPlay control, and more. This update also brought gesture control for Smart Apple TVs.

The current version is more capable compared to its predecessors. Moreover, the layout looks visually better than before as well.   • For iOS 11 or earlier versions, Swipe Up from the bottom edge of the screen
  • On iPhone X or later, Swipe down from the upper-right portion of the screen
  • Click on the Apple TV or Smart TV icon
  • Choose your Smart TV or Apple TV model from the list
  • Follow instructions and generate a four-digit code on your TV
  • If you have a 3rd generation Apple TV, use Siri or Apple TV Remote to enter code

Note: If you can not see iPhone remote app Apple TV icon, then go to Settings> Control Center> Customize Control. Then find the Apple TV icon and click on the plus icon near it to add it to the Control Center Menu.

How to use iPhone as remote for Apple TV and its options

Apple TV Remote App works just like its physical alternative. Thus, if you are familiar with the Apple TV Remote, it will be quite easy for you to navigate through the app.

  • You can use Navigation icons to move through options
  • Navigate until your preferred option is highlighted and tap on the icon
  • If you hold on to an icon, it will open additional options if available
  • You can also use the in-app keyboard to enter texts into your Apple TV
  • Use Volume Buttons of your iOS device to control TVs volume
  • Touch and hold Siri button to activate Siri for voice control
