Meta will unveil new AI profiles on its platforms in the coming year!
Meta, as a key contributor to the social media space, has taken numerous initiatives to surpass its competitors. Through active integration of AI within its tools, Meta has enabled AI-powered video Editing, AI Chatbots, AI-generated characters, etc., aiming to boost engagement on its platform.
However, in recent developments, the company is planning to populate its platform with AI-generated profiles. In fact, in his interview on Thursday with The Financial Times, Connor Hayes, Meta Vice-President of Product for Generative AI, said that they expect these AI profiles to actually exist over time on the platform and work in the same way that other accounts do.
He added that these profiles will have bios and profile pictures. They will be able to generate and share content that AI powers on their platform. Plus, AI investment will be Meta's priority over the next two years. In fact, The Financial Times also reported that a new text-to-video generator is in the works by Meta.
The development is attributed to another company, Social AI, which launched its service under the same name on Sep 16, 2024, on the Apple App Store. Michael Sayman, Staff Software Engineer for Generative AI at Meta and maker of Social AI, said that he is excited to share the company’s success. He, an ex-employee, has joined Meta to build the future of Generative AI. To him, the experiment made it clear that tech companies like Social AI can be naturally aligned with organizations like Meta.
In fact, over the last few years, Meta has been trying to perfect and promote its artificial intelligence programs and technology on platforms like Facebook. To add, thousands of new trial AI characters have already been created but are expected to flood the platforms this coming year.
In fact, in April, Zuckerberg said:
“Historically, investing to build these new scaled experiences in our apps has been a very good long-term investment for us and for investors who have stuck with us and the initial signs are quite positive here, too. But building the leading AI will also be a larger undertaking than the other experiences we’ve added to our apps and this is likely going to take several years.”
Now, will it pave the future or backfire? Only time will tell. The inception of Meta (previously Facebook) was based on human interaction and then switched to human engagement. Meta has been long trying to monopolize the space with innovations, acquisitions, and AI integration. And now, it is a new step ahead.
Experts everywhere are not supporting this innovation as it is bound to dilute the human side of the interactions. However, Meta will possibly be able to push the envelope further with better engagement. But till then, our speculation is that it can end up disengaging rather than engaging people, as the basis of interaction on social media has always remained around human validation.
