Study Tells GenZ Prefers AI Over Pets For Emotional Support

The new generation of youth finds artificial intelligence more effective than pets in receiving emotional support and comfort.

Researchers from First Saturday Lime have come forward with a new finding that GenZ and GenY generations prefer Artificial Intelligence companionship over critters like Dogs, Cats, Fish, and others. 

“One in 10 Americans are turning to AI for emotional support,” said researchers. The survey team enrolled 1000 anonymous individuals nationwide, ranging from Zoomers to boomers. The team uncovered stark revelations, including that 11% of millennials and 10% of GenZ prefer AI for emotional comfort over pets.

Surprisingly, 18% of the individuals surveyed found their virtual companions to be more effective than traditional emotional support animals. This is clear proof that AI is dwelling deeper into our everyday lives beyond just being useful for completing mundane tasks.

The use cases around AI in daily life are widening daily, from people planning their weddings to singles filtering thousands of Tinder profiles to match with the right one. Such is the story of Alexander Zhadan, who is 23 years old. Alexander chose smart analysis over the traditional trial-and-error method when finding his ideal partner online. He went to ChatGPT to scan 5239 Tinder profiles. The bot efficiently performed its task and revealed the one profile now his fitting fiance.

Megan Riehl, 28, sought help from DALL-E to draw impressive invitations for her September nuptials. The Artificial Intelligence software helped the couple not only prevent unnecessary editing hassle but also saved them a whopping $1200. “It was a nice way to save a good chunk of change,” Riehl said in an interview with a new media house.

The usage of AI is not limited to saving money or impressing users with its creativity. It extends its capabilities to help people overcome pangs of postpartum depression in new moms. This clearly indicates the efficiency of AI in boosting mental health, something that has become a critical aspect of leading a healthy life. 

But AI still has a long way to go. The survey also revealed that canines are still kings of the masses when it comes to providing the best emotional support. The reason is more genetically coded than benefit-oriented as the human-animal companionship is over thousands of years old.
