Sora AI, OpenAI’s flagship video generation tool, has finally come out of its research preview and is now available for Plus accounts at zero cost.
OpenAI’s Sora AI has finally left the preview stage and launched for global users. The AI video generation platform is rolling out as a standalone product for all ChatGPT Plus and Pro accounts at no additional cost, and can be accessed directly from the official sora.com website.
The official release note states that this is an important step towards developing models that can interact with the physical world. OpenAI has also released an upgraded version of Sora, Sora Turbo, that is dramatically faster than the previewed version released in February.
In the newly launched Sora AI video generation tool, users can create videos up to 1080 resolution of 20 seconds duration. The videos can be generated in widescreen, vertical and square aspect ratios. The tool is capable enough to use existing assets for remixing, extending, and blending them, or even creating entirely new content from scratch.

Both Sora and Sora Turbo can take text, image, or video input for each frame to customize the entire video according to their requirements or creative demands. The official Sora website has displayed a huge repository of video samples created entirely by the tool as an example of what they can achieve with it.
Since the commercial release, traffic inflow from around the world has surged rapidly causing the company to temporarily disable new account creation. As a result, users trying to sign up to Sora even through an existing free ChatGPT account will see the below message.
Sora is also released under heavy restrictions to ensure compliance with the latest regulations regarding likeness, deepfake, and child sexual abuse material.
“Likeness is currently only available as a pilot feature to a small group of early testers. To address concerns around the misappropriation of likenesses and deepfakes, we’ve set particularly strict moderation standards for uploads featuring people and continue to block content with nudity. Users who have access to this feature will also see in-product reminders about our policies, including what’s allowed and what isn’t. We will actively monitor patterns of misuse, and when we find it, we will remove the content, take appropriate action, and use these early learnings to iterate on our approach to safety,” said the official release note of Sora AI.
All Sora generated videos come with a C2PA metadata which provide tracing to the origin and empower transparency. The videos whether generated entirely or extend over real footage will always have an AI-generated label to distinguish them clearly.
