Paytm UPI to Stop Working on Google Play from August 31, 2025: Vodafone/Idea Mobile Billing Also Ends

Paytm UPI to Stop Working on Google Play from August 31, 2025: Vodafone/Idea Mobile Billing Also Ends

Google Play to End Paytm UPI Support in India from August 31!

A recent notification from Google Play about Paytm UPI no longer being accepted from August 31, 2025, has sparked confusion among users. Paytm has now issued a clarification, confirming that UPI transactions on Paytm remain unaffected for everyday consumer and merchant payments.

The change impacts only recurring payments such as subscription billing.

What Exactly Is Changing?

If you were using Paytm UPI to pay for services like YouTube Premium, Google One storage, or any other auto-renewing subscription, your existing UPI ID ending with @paytm will no longer work after the deadline.

Instead, users must update their UPI ID to a new handle linked with their bank, such as @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes, or @ptsbi.

“This means that if a user was paying for YouTube Premium or Google One storage or to any recurring platform through Paytm UPI, they will simply need to change their old @paytm handle to the new handle linked to their bank.”

Paytm clarified.

One-time UPI payments, like sending money or scanning a QR code, will continue to work as usual with no changes.

Why Is Google Play Ditching Paytm UPI?

The shift is part of Paytm’s migration to new UPI handles after receiving approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to function as a Third Party Application Provider (TPAP).

Google Play issued the alert because the deadline for updating recurring mandates is August 31, 2025.

What Paytm Users Need to Do Now

To avoid subscription failures, users should:

  • Update their recurring payments to the new Paytm UPI handle linked to their bank.
  • Alternatively, switch to other UPI apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM, or PayZapp.
  • Manually check and update each subscription (YouTube, Drive, games, dating apps, fitness trackers, etc.) since account-level changes may not sync automatically.

Vodafone/Idea Mobile Billing Also Ends

Alongside Paytm UPI, Vodafone and Idea mobile billing will no longer be available on Google Play starting August 31, 2025. This option, which allowed users to add subscription charges directly to their mobile bill, is being discontinued.

That means Vodafone/Idea customers paying for services like YouTube Premium through carrier billing will need to switch to another payment method before the deadline.

Key Takeaway: Regular Paytm UPI payments remain unaffected. Only recurring Google Play subscriptions tied to @paytm handles or Vodafone/Idea mobile billing need to be updated before August 31, 2025, to avoid interruptions.
