OpenAI Introduces Advanced AI Features On macOS Devices
Date: December 20, 2024
On the 11th day of ‘12 Days of Ship-mas’, OpenAI expanded its AI features on macOS computers, including integrations with external apps.
OpenAI is on an announcement spree, with every day bringing new introductions surrounding core AI features across devices and platforms. On the 11th day of ‘12 Days of Ship-mas’, OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer, Kevin Weil, made some of the most exciting announcements for macOS device users.
After its previous ‘Call ChatGPT’ feature announcement went viral, the company is now bringing an advanced voice mode on macOS desktops to engage with ChatGPT through voice commands. Mac owners using ChatGPT desktops will now see a floating digital sidekick icon of the platform on their screens.
The next best announcement is the no-click access to ChatGPT. Users on Mac desktops can now use advanced voice mode to wake up ChatGPT and input prompts through voice commands. This function works even when users are using other applications or software on the desktop.
ChatGPT’s integration with the desktop software has also been upgraded to a great extent. Users working on their browsers do not need to switch tabs anymore. They can simply instruct ChatGPT to draft a mail, brainstorm ideas, or research topics.
Another AI feature added to the Mac systems is the coding capability. ChatGPT can now work on their behalf on various coding apps on the computer to write, edit, or optimize codes. This function works upon manual approval from users to access certain coding apps, and the AI chatbot will lend a helping hand.
This feature also provides guided assistance while working on complex and long-form codes. For instance, a user working on Warp editor can instruct ChatGPT to analyze what’s on the screen and receive suggestions, explanations, and more. It can even rewrite or write fresh code snippets on the existing code layers based on the provided prompt. OpenAI demonstrated this feature by using voice commands to directly write code into Xcode, Apple’s app development tool. The AI chatbot works equally well on some of the best AI code generators in the market.
The app integrations are not limited to just coding. ChatGPT can now jot down notes citing sources on Apple Notes, Notion, and Quip. This feature is extremely useful for planning trips and events or segregating research pointers.
