Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3.1 Now Allows Exit Without Data Wipe

Date: December 20, 2024

Just like the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3.1 was released without notice, the developer has recently changed how users can exit the program without wiping data.

Alphabet Inc. brought the Android 15 QPR1 Beta program out of the blue, leaving existing beta version users skeptical about updating to the latest version. The main reason why many develops enrolled in the Android Developer Program hesitated to move to the next or the previous version is the inevitable data wipe. Android has changed this approach with its latest Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3.1 update by allowing users to roll back the update without having to wipe their data on Pixel devices.

Users who want to avoid updating to the QPR2 beta can finally move back to the stable release version without facing a complete data wipe. Android rolled out the latest update over the air soon after releasing a second Android 15 QPR2 Beta to fix certain bugs.

The OTA update is typically 10.48 MB in download size, and it may vary slightly based on individual devices. The update takes users back to the security patch released back in December. Android 15 QPR 1 began rolling out its stable version roughly two weeks ago on Pixel devices across the world.

Users can roll back to the previous stable version by following the below-mentioned instructions:
Visit Settings → System → Software updates → System update. The System update will show an ‘Android Beta Exit No Data Wipe' option. Click confirm and wait for the update to finish.

Several Reddit users have reported receiving the update as far as 10 days ago. This means that the tech giant is rolling out the update to broader audiences now. Those who do go forward with the rollback will be missing out on some exciting features, including a beefed-up DND known as Priority Modes. Other features include blocking notifications, calls, and other disturbances based on custom preferences or needs.
