Meta Launches Standalone AI App with Voice, Image Tools, and Social Discovery Feed

Date: November 11, 2025

Meta unveils a feature-rich AI app with voice chat, image generation, and a social Discover feed to rival ChatGPT.

Meta is stepping further into the AI spotlight. On Monday, the company rolled out a standalone Meta AI app — and it’s clearly designed to go head-to-head with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

The new app isn’t just another chatbot. It brings together a conversational assistant, image generation tools, and even a TikTok-style “Discover” feed that lets users scroll through and remix popular AI prompts. It’s Meta’s biggest push yet to make AI not just functional, but social.

“People can choose to experience a personal AI designed around voice conversations with Meta AI inside a standalone app,” Meta said in its official announcement. “We’re excited to get this in people’s hands and gather their feedback.”

At its core, the app is powered by Meta’s newly released Llama 4 model — their most advanced large language model to date. Users can chat via text or voice, and Meta has added full-duplex voice functionality. That means the AI assistant can now talk naturally, without needing to wait for you to finish or press a button, much like having a conversation with another person.

Currently, that feature is rolling out in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with more regions expected soon.

But what really makes the app stand out is its Discover feed — a vertically scrolling stream of AI-generated content. Want to see what kind of sci-fi story someone cooked up using Meta AI?

Curious how others are using it to create art or solve everyday problems? Just scroll, tap, and try it yourself. You can “remix” prompts to generate your own spin on any shared output.

This feed introduces a layer of social engagement that most other AI platforms lack. According to Meta, it’s all about making AI more approachable — and more fun.

The app also allows users to generate high-quality images, either from scratch or as part of an ongoing chat. That functionality builds on tools already embedded in Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp — but here, it’s the central focus.

The company says Meta AI will learn from how users interact, remembering details like your name, preferences, and style to deliver a more personalized experience over time. And yes, it's tightly integrated with your Facebook and Instagram accounts — a move that raises some eyebrows about privacy, but makes for a more seamless experience if you’re already in Meta’s ecosystem.

As of today, the app is available on iOS, Android, and the web.

Meta’s launch adds serious weight to the growing field of personal AI assistants — and brings the competition straight to the devices people use every day.
