Instagram is bringing back a trend that rocked the world in the 2000s. The MySpace-like feature adds a song to your profile that appears in the bio.
As technology advances, some of the extinct trends are making a strong comeback. One of them is the Song On Profile feature that rocked global social media audiences who used MySpace. MySpace was a unique platform allowing individuals to showcase who they were digitally. As the platform died down with time, its unique features went with it. However, good things make their way back into the world, and Instagram has emerged as the leader in bringing the long-lost trend back to life.
Instagram launched the MySpace-like Song On Profile feature yesterday, allowing users to add their favorite songs to their profile. The feature has been launched in collaboration with world-renowned pop star Sabrina Carpenter. Her latest release, Espresso, was a hit worldwide throughout the summer.
Beginning yesterday, Sabrina Carpenter’s Instagram profile has started featuring the teaser of the song Taste from her unreleased album ahead of launch. The album is set to launch officially on Friday, but the teaser has gained viral popularity, giving the newly launched Song On Profile feature a Kickstarter boost.
Users who want to try out the new feature can visit the ‘Edit Profile’ section. There, they can select a track from Instagram’s library of licensed music that they normally place in their posts, reels, or stories. It is important to note that the music they add will only play for 30 seconds on the track. These songs will not autoplay. People who visit anyone’s profile will have to play or pause the music manually.
Instagram is also adding more hidden features built around Sabrina Carpenter's upcoming album, Short n’ Sweet, as the core theme. One feature includes using keywords like “Sabrina” or the coffee cup emoji, turning temporary Notes messages into light blue. A Sabrina Carpenter theme is also launched for a chat background featuring lipstick kisses.
