Google expands Search beyond keywords, introducing conversational AI Mode to seven Indian languages while introducing Search Live, a camera-powered assistant that talks back in real-time.
Google has officially launched Search Live in India, making the country the first outside the United States to get this major update with advanced AI Mode in seven Indian languages. This dual launch will transform how people in India interact with Search. This new, real-time, camera-and-voice-powered search feature will make searching more intuitive, more local, and more accessible.
Hema Budaraju, Vice President of Product Management for Search at Google, mentioned in a blog post:
“People in India are power users of multimodal search, forming our largest user base for both voice and visual search globally.”
Search Live is Google’s latest conversational feature. It allows users to converse directly with the Search Engine. It is AI-powered and utilizes your phone’s camera and microphone. This brings a genuinely multimodal search experience. It is like having a real-time conversation with the entire internet at one go.
Search Live functions similarly to the Gemini Live feature already available in the Gemini app. But the two serve different purposes. Gemini Live focuses on conversational AI interactions without actively searching the web. It works like a chatbot that responds based on its training. Search Live, on the other hand, constantly browses the internet while you speak or point your camera. It fetches instant, up-to-date information in real-time. This makes Search Live better for questions needing current data, while Gemini Live handles general conversations and creative tasks.
In this perfect use case, the tool provides instant, step-by-step advice and highlights how this new feature is capable of handling complex, real-world queries, which is a huge leap forward.
Google simultaneously expanded its AI Mode to seven additional Indian languages: Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. This brings the total supported languages in India to nine, including the previously available English and Hindi.
The expansion relies on advanced reasoning capabilities from Google's custom Gemini model for Search. The model goes beyond simple translation. It understands local nuances, cultural references, and how people phrase questions differently across languages.
To access the new feature, you just need to follow these simple steps:
Google’s latest update isn’t just a technology update. It is the shift towards how people use the Search feature and how it works for millions. By integrating voice, visuals, and regional languages, Search Live and AI Mode are setting new benchmarks to standardize accessibility and relevance for the users. This approach makes search more feasible for users who prefer speaking over typing or require visuals for better understanding. Since India is evolving rapidly in AI, Google is paying close attention to this. This is evident that India is serving as a testing ground for these tech giants before expanding these new features globally.
