Gmail users can now talk directly with the Gemini AI chatbot through a new feature called Gemini Q&A to get assistance in tasks related to Emails.
Google has been integrating AI capabilities across its service offerings for over a year. With constant to and fro testing of new AI features, many of them have helped the tech giant improve end-consumer engagement and scale revenues. One such feature is the newly introduced Gemini Q&A, which Google launched on Thursday. The freshly added integration of Gemini into Gmail allows users to interact directly with the AI chatbot to get assistance in various tasks.
According to Google's official blog post, this feature is currently limited to Android users of Gmail and will soon roll out for iOS devices. Windows and other computer device users of Gmail will have to wait a bit longer before accessing Gemini Q&A.
With Gemini Q&A, Gmail users on Android can ask Gemini to write a mail for them. As the AI chatbot has full access to the entire Email history, it can easily understand the prompt’s context, find relevant information in the Emails, and write content on your behalf. Google says the prompts can be as simple as, “Catch me up on the emails about quarterly planning.” In return, Gemini will scout the inbox, the sent emails, and every other folder to summarize the quarterly planning conversations.
It is important to note that Gemini is prone to hallucinations and may provide results that are not accurate or highly delusional. The current rollout is in the public testing phase, with Beta testing already done. So, thorough verification of the prompt results is a must to ensure that you’re somehow not getting the wrong information. Gemini Q&A will be placed next to the search bar already provided in Gmail.
Google has also announced that Gemini Q&A is accessible only to paid Gemini users. This shift is a major pivot from being a search engine to a complete AI-assisted search solution. By keeping the payment payer, Google has cleared the air that this feature will not be made free anytime in the future.
