Firefox Update Rolls Out AI Chatbot Integration, Security Enhancements, and New Tab Page Updates

Firefox 135 introduces AI chatbot access, stronger security, a redesigned New Tab page, and expanded translations. Firefox 136 Beta adds AMD GPU video decoding for Linux.

Mozilla, one of the most popular internet browsers, has released Firefox 135. The update, available as of February 4, 2025, introduces AI chatbot access, expanded language translation capabilities, and a series of security and privacy enhancements. It marks a continued effort to improve user experience and web security.

However, the feature that stole the limelight was, you guessed right, their all-new AI chatbot. Users can now enable the chatbot through Firefox Labs, selecting a provider to access an AI-powered chat interface within the internet browser. “AI Chatbot access is being gradually rolled out to all users,” Mozilla confirmed in its release notes.

Firefox Translations also supports Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, while Russian has been added as a target language. Joey Sneddon of OMG! Ubuntu said these improvements “expand the browser’s global usability and align with Mozilla’s commitment to privacy-focused machine translation.”

New Security Measures Strengthen Certificate Transparency and Privacy

Mozilla also introduced stricter security protocols with the Firefox update 135, including enforcement of certificate transparency. This measure requires web servers to publicly disclose security certificates before being trusted. “This only affects servers using certificates issued by a certificate authority in Mozilla's Root CA Program,” Mozilla stated.

Further security updates include the gradual rollout of CRLite certificate revocation checking. Security analyst Michael Larabel described this feature as “a significant performance boost in how Firefox handles certificate trust.”

Additionally, Mozilla has removed the “Do Not Track” setting from internet browser preferences, replacing it with a more explicit “Tell websites not to sell or share my data” option. Sneddon noted that this change “makes clear that it is a request rather than an enforceable privacy measure.”

The revamped New Tab Page Offers Better Navigation and Customization

Firefox 135 also adjusts its New Tab page, which was first introduced in Firefox 134 for U.S. users and has now expanded globally. The Firefox update repositions the Firefox logo to the left, prioritizing the search bar, shortcuts, and Pocket’s Recommended Stories. “Users on larger screens will now see up to four columns of recommended content,” Mozilla stated.

Looking Ahead: Firefox 136 Beta

With Firefox 135 now available, Mozilla has already begun testing Firefox 136, currently in beta. The next release is set to introduce hardware video decoding for AMD GPUs on Linux by default. “Hardware video decoding is now enabled for AMD GPUs on Linux,” Larabel confirmed.

Firefox update 135 is now available for download across all major platforms. Updates will roll out automatically for existing users.
