OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk share a complex relationship filled with praises and hate speeches.
Sam Altman and Elon Musk started OpenAI as a visionary project that advances the evolution of artificial intelligence and its uses in the world. However, Elon Musk left the company three years after the launch and has been quite vocal against Sam Altman on every stage possible. Today, Elon Musk is one of the biggest world leaders who actively criticize OpenAI and Microsoft’s actions.
In a recent interview published on Thursday, Sam Altman called Elon Musk a bully and someone who enjoys getting into fights. “Right now, it's me. It's been Bezos, Gates, Zuckerberg, lots of other people,” said Altman.
According to Altman, Musk is not against the actions that he is taking. The only difference is in who is in charge. "Everything we're doing, I believe Elon would be happy about if he were in control of OpenAI," he said.
Altman also associated Musk’s vocal direction with Trump’s administration and the freedom it gives the tech leader. However, under Trump’s aegis, Sam Altman says that Musk would not misuse the power to harm competitors. In his own words, the message goes, “I think there are people who will really be a jerk on Twitter who will still not abuse the system of the country,"
“I may turn out to be wrong, but I believe pretty strongly that Elon will do the right thing. It would be profoundly un-American to use political power to hurt your competitors and advantage your own businesses”, said Altman in an earlier interview at the New York Times DealBook Summit.
Based on the latest updates, Elon Musk has sued Microsoft and OpenAI for shifting from the original mission of being a non-profit organization. Elon Musk’s own AI startup, xAI is now valued at over $50 Billion, according to the Wall Street Journal, making the philanthropic comments absurd and self-destructive in nature.
