Social media erupts as billionaire joins mass subscription cancellations following controversial comments by 'Dead End: Paranormal Park' creator.
Elon Musk has thrown his support behind a growing boycott of Netflix, joining hundreds of users canceling their subscriptions after controversial remarks by Hamish Steele, creator of the Netflix animated series "Dead End: Paranormal Park," regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The trending hashtag "Cancel Netflix" dominated X on Tuesday, with users posting screenshots of their canceled subscriptions in protest of Steele's social media posts following Kirk's death on September 10, 2025.
The backlash centers on Steele's alleged posts on BlueSky in response to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's statement on Kirk's death, where Steele reportedly called Kirk a "Nazi" and wrote profanity-laced comments dismissing his assassination. Screenshots of the posts circulated widely after being shared by the conservative account Libs of TikTok.
According to the posts, Steele wrote:
"You sympathy for any of the families being slaughtered by your weapons. but a random nazi gets shot and its a public statement. You're such a f***ing evil s**t."
Musk responded to the controversy by calling Steele "a groomer" in a post on X. The billionaire then signaled his own participation in the boycott.
When former Department of Energy nuclear scientist Matt Van Swol posted that he had canceled his Netflix subscription, citing Steele's celebration of Kirk's murder and concerns about "pro-trans content" aimed at children, Musk reposted the message with a single word: "Same."
Van Swol had written:
"Just cancelled my Netflix subscription. If you employ someone who celebrated the murder of Charlie Kirk and makes content that pushes pro-trans content on my kids, you will never get a dime of my money."

Beyond Steele's comments about Kirk, critics have taken aim at "Dead End: Paranormal Park" itself. The conservative account Libs of TikTok posted a clip from the series, stating:
"Dead End Paranormal Park, a show on Netflix, is pushing pro-transgender on CHILDREN. This show is advertised for 7-YEAR-OLDS."
The animated show features a main character, Barney Guttman, who is transgender and voiced by Zach Barack, the first trans actor ever cast in a Marvel movie. In one scene, the character tells another that his experience has "reminded me how important it is to live your life without apology."
Several users also accused Netflix of "pushing woke and trans ideology on children," with critics arguing that the streaming giant has been insensitive in handling recent controversies.
The boycott movement has gained significant momentum on social media, with multiple accounts posting evidence of their Netflix cancellations. As the controversy spread, social media feeds flooded with users sharing proof of cancelled Netflix subscriptions.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between content creators, streaming platforms, and audiences over political discourse and content targeting children. It also underscores the influence wielded by prominent figures like Musk, whose 226 million followers on X can amplify consumer movements within hours.
