The new update brings multimodal capabilities, allowing users to send photos and audio for AI-powered responses. Paid subscribers benefit from expanded access.
OpenAI has incorporated a big ChatGPT upgrade in WhatsApp, which allows users to send voice messages and photos in addition to messages. With this update, the AI chatbot is a lot more flexible, and its features are closer to their web and app counterparts for OpenAI users. With its new feature, users can receive textual feedback for audio and picture queries, making ChatGPT through WhatsApp a more useful and interactive tool.
Since its launch in December 2024, ChatGPT on WhatsApp has primarily been limited to text interactions. Now, OpenAI has expanded its capabilities by enabling image and voice inputs. Users can now upload a photo or send a voice recording for analysis rather than typing out their queries.
This is particularly useful for tasks that are easier to explain visually or verbally. For example, users can now take a picture of a plant to ask ChatGPT to identify it, snap a photo of a sign for translation, or upload a screenshot of an error message to get troubleshooting advice. Similarly, sending voice messages allows users to ask questions more naturally and conveniently, particularly when on the go.
Another significant improvement is the introduction of account linking, which allows users to connect their existing ChatGPT accounts (Free, Plus, or Pro) directly to WhatsApp. Previously, users accessing ChatGPT through WhatsApp were subject to strict messaging limits. However, with this new ChatGPT upgrade in WhatsApp, users on a paid tier will enjoy the same expanded usage limits and potentially higher-end AI models they would get on the official ChatGPT app or website.
This change effectively makes ChatGPT on WhatsApp a more practical alternative for those who want to use AI-powered assistance without switching between multiple apps or platforms.
The version with ChatGPT upgrade for WhatsApp is accessible anywhere in the world. To start communicating with ChatGPT through WhatsApp, one must first save its official contact (+1-800-CHATGPT) in one's contacts. Once saved, one can converse with it in a manner similar to any contact in WhatsApp.
