ChatGPT is bringing the biggest visual upgrade to its interface with the beta launch of Canvas, an advanced assistive collaboration window.
OpenAI is bringing the first visual upgrade to its interface in the last two years. ChatGPT Canvas is a new collaborative interface currently launched in the beta version for ChatGPT Plus and Team users worldwide. ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu users will access the new update by next week.
“Canvas is a new approach and the first major update to ChatGPT’s visual interface since we launched two years ago,” said OpenAI. ChatGPT plans to make the new Canvas feature free for all users once it comes out of the beta phase to facilitate a stable release.
The Canvas feature is not turned on by default and is available as a separate window for users to differentiate from normal chat windows. The core reason for bringing this upgrade is to help ChatGPT users go beyond the text-based prompt and output settings.
The new Canvas collaborates with the user to achieve what they aim to accomplish. “With canvas, ChatGPT can better understand the context of what you’re trying to accomplish. Like a copy editor or code reviewer, it can give inline feedback and suggestions with the entire project in mind,” explained OpenAI,” said OpenAI.
It also comes with multiple shortcuts to turn the Canvas feature on or off, adjust writing length, debug code, and other quick actions. If enabled, the Canvas feature also automatically turns on in scenarios where it could be helpful. Users can also write prompts to enable or disable Canvas Assistance.
“You can also include “use canvas” in your prompt to open canvas and use it to work on an existing project,” said OpenAI. ChatGPT will offer inline suggestions and feedback on provided content, along with contextual requests to expand on the task. Users can also change the reading level, adjust the document’s length, and even add emojis. Speculations have already begun that ChatGPT is evolving into an assistive collaboration tool from a Question/Answer format.
