Apple is set to enhance Siri with AI technology from Gemini, signaling evolution for Apple's voice assistant.
Apple is reportedly exploring the use of Google’s Gemini AI to power its voice assistant, Siri. According to Bloomberg, Apple has reportedly agreed with Google to test its AI model, which could revolutionize the way Siri delivers responses. Overall, this move can offer a more advanced, multi-modal search experience that incorporates text, images, videos, and local points of interest.
Apple is now playing hard to catch up in the rapidly advancing AI race. This collaboration comes after Apple’s long-awaited overhaul of Siri. Now this overhaul also faced massive criticism for lagging behind competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
In the meantime, the tech giant has turned to Google, its longtime partner in search, to provide a boost. Google’s Gemini is now being considered to power Siri’s new features. If successful, the technology could also be integrated into other key areas of iPhone software.
These upgrades include the Safari browser and Spotlight search. Furthermore, this’ll allow users to bypass traditional web searches and obtain more immediate answers about popular topics.
Moreover, Apple’s new AI search experience, named as World Knowledge Answers, will be designed to offer a dynamic interface combining text, photos, videos, and personalized summaries. In the near future, Siri's functionality will become more intuitive and user-friendly. Also, Gemini will now provide Apple with AI capabilities without having to invest excessively in R&D.
News of the collaboration has already caught the attention of investors. Hindustan Times reports that the deal has led Alphabet’s shares to rise by 3.7%, and Apple’s stock gained 1.6%. Experts see this partnership as a savvy move for Apple, which gains access to Google’s new technology. Meanwhile, Google expands the reach of its Gemini model to millions of Apple users.
A spokesperson for both Apple and Google declined to comment on the details of the agreement. However, the collaboration marks a critical step in AI-powered search, a key battleground in the tech world.
While the final version of Siri's upgrade is still years away, this shift could have major implications for Apple, Google, and the broader AI industry. By integrating Gemini into Siri, Apple hopes to bring its voice assistant up to speed with the AI-powered search engines and chatbots that have become a staple of modern internet use. Moreover, the partnership between Apple and Google could transform how millions of iPhone users experience AI-powered search.
