Amazon’s AI Can Now Generate Full-Length Video Clips—Here’s What That Means
Date: April 08, 2025
Amazon’s Nova Reel 1.1 now creates multi-shot, minutes-long AI videos, signaling a bold push into generative content creation.
Amazon is upping the ante in the AI video generation game.
The company just dropped a major upgrade to its generative video model, Nova Reel, now boasting the ability to create minutes-long videos—yes, minutes. Previously, it was limited to shorter clips. With the new Nova Reel 1.1, creators can string together multiple six-second scenes into a full narrative experience that can stretch up to two minutes.
Here’s a quick glimpse by Amazon itself!
Multi-Shot Magic
So what’s new under the hood? For starters, Nova Reel now supports "multi-shot" videos with consistent style and pacing throughout. Users can type up prompts up to 4,000 characters long to guide the generation process. There’s also a new Multishot Manual mode that lets users upload reference images alongside their prompts—perfect for those wanting more visual control.
The result? You could, for instance, feed the system a single image and a half-page script and get back a 20-shot sequence in 720p resolution, all rendered in Amazon’s cloud.
Available on AWS—With Caveats
Like most of Amazon’s AI tools, Nova Reel is available via AWS, specifically through Amazon Bedrock. You’ll need to request access, but once you’re in, it’s plug-and-play for developers.
That said, Amazon is keeping some details close to the chest. The company hasn’t revealed which datasets it used to train Nova Reel, nor has it shared how creators can opt out of having their content scraped for training. Still, Amazon says it will back AWS users legally if they run into copyright issues using generated media.
With OpenAI, Google, and now Amazon sprinting to dominate the generative video space, Nova Reel’s new capabilities could be a serious play to get ahead. While it’s not perfect—and still very much in its early days—it shows just how fast this tech is evolving.
And if you’re wondering whether two minutes is enough to make an impact, just ask TikTok.
