2019 is going to be the year where technologies like foldable screens and 5G will hit the mobile industry
The smartphones are evolving at an unprecedented pace. Right from a few inches black and white screen to multimedia phone and from front cameras phones to bezel-free phones, the technology behind smartphones is getting more and more complex.
Presently, the dual camera phone, coupled with teardrop notch is trending, and with 2019 in sight, the landscape of foldable phones are not far behind. The likes of Samsung and Apple have already locked horns and keep on competing to garner maximum user base.
It’s always exciting to speculate on the smartphones that will embrace us in the future. So, keeping that in mind, here is the list of the smartphones that will make their way into 201 most expectedly.
Following are some devices that are expected to make their way in 2019, and we all are excited to witness some of the greatest innovation in the mobile industry.
Royole FlexPai was the first foldable phone, but Samsung made sure to mark its existence in this technology by teasing the mobile world with their foldable phone in the Annual Developer Conference. Samsung foldable phone is code-named as Galaxy F and sports a flexible display, which is termed as “Infinity Flex Display.”
Justin Denison, Samsung Senior Vice President, said in a statement,
"The Infinity Flex Display represents an entirely new mobile platform. We've been living in a world where the size of your screen can only be as large as the device itself. We've added a new dimension to help you browse, watch and multitask like never before.
The foldable phone once unrolled will be more like a tablet with a 7.4-inch screen and will be more suitable to draw out multi-tasking. As reported, it will be folded inwards and will measure 4.6-inch when folded.
The price of the Samsung foldable phone is not disclosed yet, but with updates of tech experts pouring in now and then, it may notch up at around $1,770.
Samsung is not just limited to tap on the foldable phones market, but the South Korean multinational conglomerate is also simultaneously working on its other flagship devices like Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 Plus, and Galaxy S10 Lite.
The new series of Samsung’s flagship devices are expected to take the mobile industry a step further with slimmest bezels and highest screen to body ratio
As rumored, Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus will be packed with a QHD, 1440 x 3040 and Galaxy S10 Lite will feature a full HD, 1080 x 2280 display. With a significant increase in the screen size, the bezels are bound to vanish from the front part of the phones.
Apart from the screen size, the other significant feature that will accompany the new smartphones will be the night mode in the cameras.
The Cupertino giant is known to churn out remarkable devices that have always stunned the tech world. Going by the same reputation, Apple is expected to stay up with dual-camera lens setup and notch display, but to add some new element to their line-up of smartphones, iPhones may embed iris scanner and in-display fingerprint sensor.
It is also reported that the new Apple iPhones will also shun 3D Touch to cut down on prices, and thus it aims to grab more market. With new features coming in, the prices are bound to shoot, and the smartphone manufacturer who will keep up with the push of price will emerge as the ultimate winner.
The new iPhones may include iPhone XE, iPhone 9, and iPhone 9 Plus.
Google always puts its best foot forward in whatever endeavor it takes, and Pixel smartphones are no different. Pixel 3 & Pixel 3 XL are already out in the market, and it's still time that Google comes up with its new flagship device.
Meanwhile, the chances of Pixel 3 Lite coming into the market is quite high, and we expect it to come packed with a change in design, new camera features, and some improvement in configuration. Also, with a bunch of new features, Pixel 3 Lite may be introduced as a low-cost handset to take on the likes of OnePlus, Huawei, and Xiaomi.
Right in the race, Huawei is already running high in the race of premium phones, and with Mate 20 Pro, the Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment and consumer electronics company has made some formidable promises.
In 2019, Huawei may push Mate 30 in the mobile arena, while focusing on the camera part. If rumors are to be believed, Huawei may pack four cameras at the back of the new smartphone in a vertical arrangement, backed by a big flash on the sides of the cameras.
In the specification department, Huawei Mate 30 will get the new Qualcomm processor with a 10 GB RAM.
OnePlus is one smartphone brand that has taken the mobile industry by storm. In a short period, the Shenzhen-based Chinese smartphone manufacturer has made a remarkable impact and to keep up the good work in 2019; we can very well see OnePlus 7.
The features that will accompany OnePlus 7 will be new Qualcomm processor, triple rear camera setup, wireless charging, and if the reports are to be believed, we can also see front-facing camera hidden behind the sliding screen. And by doing so, the chances of an all-screen display smartphone is very much on the cards.
Regarding price, OnePlus is known to deliver flagship features at almost half price of that of its competitors. So, OnePlus 7 may range in the $600 to $1000 bracket.
We all know, 5G is the next big thing that is bound to hit the mobile industry and to stay at the helm of it, OnePlus has already started working on it. In a recent Tech Summit, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei was right in the launch of Snapdragon 855, the latest Qualcomm processor and confirmed the launch of the 5G phone.
“We will be the first, if not one of the first partners with Qualcomm to commercially launch 5G globally.”
As hinted by Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, the 5G phone is expected to come around June 2019.
Oppo has already announced its intention to mass produce 5G compatible smartphones in 2019, and it will, in turn, make the Chinese consumer electronics company being the leader of the 5G handsets pack.
In the recent past, Oppo has already come up with some excellent smartphone features like variable aperture, AI, triple cameras, Face Unlock, and Super VOOC. These all features make it a front-runner of the mobile industry.
Xiaomi is another Chinese smartphone manufacturer company that has impressed us with its mid-range feature-packed smartphones. To continue with its dominance in the 5G market, Xiaomi has already confirmed the 5G enabled phone, Mi Mix 3, to be launched in the UK and Europe and is anticipated to be launched in the first quarter of 2019. It will put the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 in stores somewhere near the MWC 2019.
Besides being a 5G device, the new flagship device will pack a magnetically sliding 6.39-inch OLED display with a bezel-less design, and in configuration area, a 10 GB RAM coupled with 512 GB of internal storage will do good to it. Not to forget the camera part; a triple or quad camera setup is something we can expect from Xiaomi.
With so many of devices all set to shimmer 2019, we are waiting to witness the new technologies and features that will make our life easier and full of fun. The top pick remains the new iPhone, Samsung foldable phone, OnePlus 5G phone, and all other 5G devices.
