Here comes another in-display fingerprint sensor smartphone of 2018.
Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is back with its all-new flagship smartphone. The company has announced the new upgrades for its Mi series. This means the company has launched Mi 8 with some of the latest features and high-end specification. In addition to this Xiaomi has launched three models including Mi 8, Mi 8 SE and Mi 8 Explorer edition on the occasion of its eighth anniversary. Moreover, Xiaomi also announces that the MIUI 10 will be coming soon for the devices. According to the details, all the devices running on MIUI 9 will get the upgrade soon.
Talking about the Xiaomi Mi 8, the company has launched a next-generation smartphone that will directly challenge the flagship phones like iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S9. Where Mi 8 and the Explorer edition will have the similar specification but differ only in their design the SE edition will possess different specifications from these two.
According to the company, both the devices will be running on the same specification but will have an entirely different design. Xiaomi Mi 8 will follow the conventional design pattern of the Mi series with minimum bezel and have the well finished front and rear glass design. The phone is made up of an aluminum frame form the 7000 series that will be fitted between the slimmed width of the phone.
On the backside, there is a vertically mounted dual camera along with the fingerprint sensor. On the other hand, Xiaomi will be giving an Explorer edition of the phone, that will have the transparent back. Yes, the design of the Explorer edition is different as it have a transparent back showing some of the phone’s components. In addition to this, the phone won't have fingerprint sensor at back instead it will own an in-display fingerprint feature just like Vivo X21.
As we have already mentioned that both the smartphones will have similar specifications the difference only comes with the design. Both devices own a 6.2 inch full HD+ super AMOLED display having the resolution of 2248 X 1080. Along with this the Mi 8 comes with an aspect ratio of 18.7:9 offering the DCI-P3 color gamut. The display of the phone has the iPhone like notch at the top containing a front camera and the sensors.
Coming to the hardware support Xiaomi has given the latest tech to the devices. Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer edition runs on octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC which is recently launched. The chipset of the devices are coupled with Octa-core 4x2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 385 Silver processor. In order to make the phone super fast, Xiaomi has given the 6GB RAM that will be available with internal storage variants including 64GB, 128GB and, 256GB. Along with this, the Explorer edition has been launched with the 8GB RAM and 265GB internal storage for the consumers.

Both the Xiaomi devices comprise a dual rear camera that is powered by the AI according to the company. The primary 12MP camera comes with f/1.8, 1/2.55", 1.4µm, 4-axis OIS, dual-pixel PDAF whereas the secondary rear camera with 1MP lens has f/2.4, 1/3.4", 1.0µm. The rear comes with the features like 2x Zoom dual pixel phase detection autofocus and has a dual LED flash. The front camera comes with a 20 MP powerful sensor that offers unrivaled selfies and video calling experience. Both the devices runs on the latest Android version that is Android 8.1 right out of the box and will be overlayed with MIUI 9. The MIUI 10 will be available soon to the devices as the company announced to release the update in the coming time.
Xiaomi will be launching a cheaper model of Mi 8 that will have the slightly lower specifications compare to the other two models. SE edition uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC chipset that is coupled with the Octa-core 8x2.2 GHz Kryo 360 processor. Along with this, the processing unit of the phone comes with a 4GB/6GB RAM having 64GB of internal storage. The phone sports a 5.88-inch full HD+ Super AMOLED display that comprises a same resolution and aspect ratio to the other two models.
In addition to this Xiaomi Mi 8 SE have the AI-powered rear dual camera that offers a number of alluring features. The primary 12MP camera comes with a f/1.9, 1.4µm, dual-pixel PDAF, gyro-EIS, whereas the secondary 5MP camera has f/2.0, 1.12µm and offers the dual pixel phase detection. This edition also runs on the Android 8.1 along with the MIUI 9 and the upgrade to MIUI is also scheduled for soon.
Xiaomi has announced that Mi 8 will be available in China first from 5th June which will be followed by Mi8 SE on June 8th, the Explorer edition will be available later this month. According to the news, the Mi 8 will cost 2699 yuan, the Explorer edition will start from 3,99 yuan and the SE will cost 1,799 yuan.
