Trump announces a $100 billion AI investment on Tuesday under a joint venture between OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle.
In a bold move to solidify America’s dominance over the AI race, President Trump announced a joint venture between OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle to invest in the infrastructure powering the AI ecosystem. The venture, dubbed Stargate, is a $100 billion initiative that came into existence to assert U.S. dominance in Artificial Intelligence.
Stargate aims to fuel the next generation of AI within the country by delivering the necessary computing power and AI infrastructure. The fund allocation will begin with focusing on 10 data centers already under construction in Texas.
Trump made this announcement in the presence of Larry Ellison, Oracle’s Chairman, Masayoshi Son, SoftBank Group CEO and CTO, and Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO.
"I'm thrilled we get to do this in the United States of America," said Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO.
Son also expressed his will to speed up the contribution to making AI America’s priority in the tech world. He added
"We will immediately start deploying $100 million ... because of your success."
In addition, President Trump also rolled back an executive order set by ex-president Biden that set some standards around AI’s development within the country from a safety perspective. Trump’s executive order aims to accelerate AI development in the country to counter frontrunners like China. His new executive order is designed to cut red tape and fast-track AI growth with, apparently, no barriers.
Stargate, the joint venture investing in AI efforts within the U.S., is expected to invest as much as $500 billion in the next four years. The contribution to these investments is also open to other investors beyond OpenAI, SoftBank, or Oracle. Collectively, the investment focuses on building U.S.-based data centers and huge server buildings that boost the production of computing power.
