Trump cracks down on bias in AI models with sweeping executive orders that reshape tech, policy, and global competition.
In a typical Trump-like move that’s already sending ripples across Silicon Valley and Capitol Hill, President Donald Trump has signed three sweeping executive orders aimed at reshaping the future of artificial intelligence in the United States. The main target? What Trump calls “woke” AI.
From rebranding artificial intelligence as “genius” to deregulating data centers and cracking down on politically biased algorithms, the president's new directives mark a dramatic escalation!
The orders are part of a broader 24-page “Winning the Race” action plan, laying out Trump’s roadmap to turn the U.S. into a global “AI export powerhouse.” The plan calls for an aggressive rollout of AI technologies across federal agencies, a rollback of Biden-era safety and ethics guidelines, and a clear message to tech companies: align with the administration’s values or risk losing billions in federal contracts.
The most headline-grabbing order mandates that all AI companies working with federal agencies eliminate what Trump calls “ideological dogmas” — including diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), critical race theory, and references to transgender rights.
Another executive order takes aim at fast-tracking data center construction, a key pillar of AI infrastructure. These centers are known for consuming massive amounts of water and electricity. Trump’s order removes federal red tape — and environmental protections — to allow faster buildouts.
In a moment that perfectly captured Trump’s signature flair, he even proposed renaming artificial intelligence altogether.
“I can’t stand it,” he said, referring to the use of the word “artificial”. “I don’t even like the name, you know? I don’t like anything that’s artificial. So could we straighten that out, please? We should change the name. I actually mean that.”
“It’s not artificial. It’s genius,” he added.
While the suggestion drew chuckles online, it also highlighted the president’s desire to reshape not just policy, but perception.
Trump’s orders blur the line between technology governance and political ideology, pushing AI into the heart of America’s ongoing culture war. Love him or loathe him, Donald Trump has once again placed himself at the center of a national — and now international — debate. By targeting “woke” AI and promising an AI-powered American future, he’s turned an emerging technology into a political battleground.
