In response to U.S. policy proposals, Nvidia stands strong, urging against location verification features that could erode trust.
Nvidia has firmly reiterated that its chips do not contain any backdoors or remote kill switches, addressing growing concerns over U.S. proposals that could require location verification in advanced chips.
The company rejected the idea of embedding such tracking technology, warning that it would create vulnerabilities and provide a "gift" to hackers and hostile actors.
The post, released in both English and Chinese, came shortly after Nvidia met with Chinese government officials to discuss the issue. These discussions stemmed from U.S. proposals requiring chipmakers to include location tracking features in their products to prevent chips from being diverted to sanctioned countries.
Nvidia emphasized that incorporating backdoors or kill switches would compromise global digital infrastructure and damage trust in U.S. technology. The company stressed that its products are designed to avoid such vulnerabilities, which could give remote access to malicious actors.
This issue has become particularly urgent following the U.S. government's restrictions on advanced AI chip exports to China earlier in 2025, as part of the ongoing U.S.-China trade conflict. Despite these sanctions, reports suggested that Chinese developers were still obtaining Nvidia chips, prompting further scrutiny from U.S. officials.
Nvidia's stance on these matters is clear: it believes that such security measures would harm rather than help the tech ecosystem, making it more vulnerable to cyber threats. The company has also signaled plans to resume sales of its H20 chip in China, indicating a potential easing of tensions between the U.S. and China.
As the debate over chip controls continues, Nvidia’s statement adds a significant voice to the ongoing discussions about the future of tech security and global trust.
