Microsoft resolves a major server issue impacting Teams, 365, Store, and Azure Portal, bringing services back online.
Microsoft Azure worldwide experienced massive service disruption, especially to the Azure Portal and services hosted in the East US region. The outage, which lasted several hours, prevented people from using Microsoft applications, including Teams, Microsoft 365, and Azure tools.
Downdetector noted more than 20,000 cases among users on the international level. The complaints ranged from slow performance and latency to failed requests, significantly impacting day-to-day operations for many businesses. Alaska Airlines, Vodafone, and Starbucks also reported that their daily workflow was affected by the disruption.
The Azure support team was quick to acknowledge the issue and took immediate steps to investigate the root cause. The official X account for Azure Support posted,
We’re investigating an issue impacting Azure Front Door services. Customers may experience intermittent request failures or latency. Updates will be provided shortly.

The disruption was eventually traced to a recent configuration change within the Azure infrastructure, which Microsoft identified as the likely cause.
The engineering departments at Microsoft were trying to recover services on the impacted platforms, such as Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and Azure Communication Services. Microsoft reversed the change of configuration and started to divert traffic to other parts of the infrastructure that were unaffected.
Shortly, services started bouncing back to regularity, and major platforms were restored. However, some users continued to report intermittent access issues as Microsoft finalized its recovery efforts. Although the entire world was hit by the global outage, which affected thousands of people, Microsoft’s prompt support and response to the situation were widely appreciated.
