Google is all set to build an AI and data center campus in Andhra Pradesh, cementing India’s role in the global AI race. Here’s what you need to know!

India is establishing itself as a growing leader in the global tech ecosystem, and Google’s investment is a testament to this. Google has announced a $15 billion investment to build a massive data center and artificial intelligence (AI) campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

This marks Google’s biggest financial commitment to the country to date, signaling its intent to make India a major node in its global AI infrastructure network.

The planned campus will be a 1-gigawatt (GW) data center cluster, designed to power a new generation of AI-driven services and cloud computing operations. The facility will be powered by renewable energy and equipped with advanced fiber connectivity, setting a new benchmark for sustainable digital infrastructure in South Asia.

It is also expected to serve as a regional hub for cloud services, AI training models, and data analytics, supporting both domestic and global clients.

Along with driving innovation, the AI center is also expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, strengthening the local tech ecosystem and boosting India’s AI readiness.

Speaking about the project, officials from the Andhra Pradesh government confirmed that the state has extended tax certainty and policy incentives to support the investment.

“We’ve ensured there will be no retrospective tax levies, and all necessary clearances are being fast-tracked.”

Said Nara Lokesh, the state’s IT and Electronics Minister, while emphasizing that the deal reflects the government’s push to attract high-value digital infrastructure investments.

The agreement between Google and the Andhra Pradesh government is expected to be formally signed on Tuesday. This move could put India on the global map for AI infrastructure, rivaling established data hub regions such as Singapore and Dublin.

As the states’ IT and Electronics Minister said-

“In an era where data is the new oil, such initiatives will serve as a strategic advantage.”

If all goes as planned, Visakhapatnam could soon become one of Asia’s most advanced data and AI capitals, powering both India’s digital economy and Google’s next wave of intelligent services.
