Leaked specifications reveal Apple's most ambitious iPhone yet, featuring a redesigned camera system, powerful A19 Pro chip, but with a good price increase.
If you've been waiting for Apple to shake things up with the iPhone, 2025 might finally be your year. Multiple leaks and industry sources suggest the iPhone 17 Pro Max could represent the most dramatic flagship evolution we've seen from Cupertino in quite some time. Design changes? Check. Camera upgrades? Absolutely. Performance boost? You bet. Price hike? Unfortunately, yes.
Fans are expected to mark their calendars for early September 2025 (specifically September 9th or 10th). This follows Apple's well-established playbook of hosting its big iPhone reveals during the first or second week of September.
Pre-orders should kick off almost immediately after the announcement, with phones likely hitting store shelves around September 19th. You won't just be choosing the Pro Max, either. Apple's planning a full lineup refresh: the standard iPhone 17, the intriguingly named iPhone 17 Air (which appears to be replacing the Plus model), and the regular iPhone 17 Pro.
iPhone fans haven't seen a genuine design overhaul in a while. But this launch might change that. Apparently, Apple is ready for its first major aesthetic shake-up since the iPhone 11 series dropped. What's changing? Aluminum frame with a striking two-tone rear that blends glass and metal elements.
That gorgeous 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with ProMotion's buttery-smooth 120Hz refresh rate isn't going anywhere. But word is that Apple's cooking up some serious improvements to the display technology itself. However, the specifics remain under wraps.
For photography enthusiasts, Apple appears ready to standardize on 48MP sensors across the board. The iPhone 17 Pro Max will reportedly pack three 48MP cameras:
Plus, including optical zoom stretching up to an impressive 8x range.
This represents a significant step up from current offerings and should give professional photographers and content creators some serious firepower in their pocket.
TSMC's cutting-edge 3nm N3P process technology will birth Apple's A19 Pro chip, and early indicators suggest this processor means business. Performance gains and energy efficiency improvements are both on the menu.
What's particularly noteworthy is the RAM bump to 12GB. If true, this will be a big increase that should supercharge multitasking capabilities while laying the groundwork for whatever AI-powered features Apple has planned. Not to mention that more memory typically translates to smoother performance when juggling multiple apps or handling resource-intensive tasks.
Pro Max buyers know what they want: all-day battery life and then some. Apple seems ready to deliver with what could be their largest iPhone battery ever—estimates place it around 5,000 mAh. Compare that to the iPhone 16 Pro Max's battery, and you're looking at a meaningful capacity increase.
Now for the part that might make your wallet wince. Current expectations put the iPhone 17 Pro Max's starting price at roughly $1,249 in the US, or £1,199 across the pond. That's a $50 premium over previous generations.
It still remains questionable whether consumers will embrace this price bump or not. Chances are, it will depend largely on how well Apple demonstrates the value proposition. With smartphone buyers becoming increasingly price-conscious, the company will need to make a compelling case that the ecosystem benefits and exclusive features justify the extra cost.
