You May Soon Get New 'Explore' Tab On YouTube

Date: October 23, 2023

YouTube aims to help the viewers with better-related video recommendations.

YouTube looks to be quite active from the last couple of months in offering better experiences to the viewers. Last week only, Susan Wojcicki, YouTube CEO pledged to enrich the user experience with new tests and experiments. Riding on the same lines, YouTube has come up with a new update as the ‘Explore tab,’ which will help the viewers with more set of recommended videos.

As reported, the Explore tab feature is currently in the testing phase and hasn’t been rolled out to many people. As of now, the feature is offered to only 1 percent of the iPhone YouTube app viewers. The full testing of the feature might take months to get the green flag from the YouTube team. Before that, the feature will be extensively tested on multiple platforms and that may include Android as well.

The new tab aims to help the viewer with more variety of videos to watch. At present, the recommended videos from YouTube’s end is directly related to the viewer’s past viewing activity and searches.

Tom Leung, Director of Product Management, said in a YouTube video, “Explore is designed to help you be exposed to different kinds of topics, videos or channels that you might not otherwise encounter, but they’re still personalized.”

With the addition of the Explore tab, there are changes in the bottom navigation bar of the app. Presently, you can find the Home, Trending, Subscriptions, Inbox and Library tabs, but now the new look includes Home, Explore, Subscriptions, Activity, and Library tab.

The video-sharing website has rightly timed the launch of this feature. As other video service apps like IGTV, Facebook, and Instagram are also locking their horns in the video domain. So, it has become significant for YouTube to stay in the fray.

The announcement of the new feature was made through the Creator Insider channel. The channel was recently mentioned by Wojcicki in his speech and is the unofficial platform for the YouTube updates. The Creator Insider channel is intended to post all the weekly updates, behind-the-scenes videos, cater to the feedback responses, and more.
