Apple has officially dropped the release candidate version of iOS 26.2 to developers and public beta testers, meaning that the final public release is just around the corner, likely landing as early as next week.
Apple pushed out the iOS 26.2 RC build to its testing community, marking the final stage before the update rolls out to all iPhone users. The release candidates are essentially the final versions that will go public if no major bugs pop up during this last week of testing.
This points out that the launch window can be between December 8-10. Thus, fitting Apple's usual December playbook. Previous x.2 updates have consistently dropped during the second week of December (iOS 18.2 hit on December 11, and iOS 17.2 launched the same date the year before).
The update packs several notable upgrades across Apple's native apps and system features, making it one of the meatier mid-cycle updates we've seen.
Apple has tweaked its Sleep Score feature after users complained the previous system was too generous with ratings. The top score has been renamed from "Excellent" to "Very High," and all category thresholds have been adjusted.
The Podcasts app is getting AI-powered upgrades that automatically generate chapters, create links to mentioned podcasts, and organize related content. Should make finding your way around episodes a lot easier.
The News app gets a cleaner layout with quick links to popular sections, part of Apple's ongoing effort to polish up its news platform.
A new Liquid Glass Lock Screen slider lets you fine-tune clock translucency with better precision across different fonts, giving you more ways to personalize your home screen look.
Finally, one of the most requested features lands—offline lyrics support. You can now sing along to your favorite tracks even when you're off the grid.
AirPods Live Translation is expanding to EU countries, making the real-time translation feature accessible to more users across Europe.
The Reminders app now supports alarms and timers for urgent tasks, so critical notifications can break through Focus modes when you really need them to.
CarPlay users can now turn off pinned conversations in Messages, while the Measure app's level tool sports an all-new Liquid Glass-inspired look.
Developers and public beta testers can grab the release candidate through Settings > General > Software Update. The RC build comes two weeks after Apple dropped the third beta, keeping pace with the company's typical update schedule.
Apple keeps pushing out solid improvements to iOS with these incremental updates. Tech watchers note that iOS 26.2 looks more feature-packed than the previous iOS 26.1 release. With the holiday season in full swing, the timing works out nicely—users will get these new features and improvements during peak device usage.
