Recently WhatsApp updated the app with the new feature of story feature with the removal of the status option. This enables the user to change the contact number without losing the chat and group data as well. While changing the contact number you have three options - you can notify all the contacts about change, you can notify only the contacts you chat with or you can decide not pass out your number to anyone of the of your contact at all. It will also automatically notify all the groups about new contact number. With this update changing the number is never will be an issue of concern for WhatsApp users.

This feature of changing number notification is in its testing phase. You can only experience in beta version only on windows phone, which can be unstable.
