OpenAI enters the medical space with ChatGPT Health. Here’s how this new AI tool can help you understand your biological data.
OpenAI has officially entered the personal healthcare space with the launch of ChatGPT Health, a dedicated, privacy-first interface designed to bridge the gap between fragmented medical records and daily wellness tracking.
Announced this week, the new feature transforms the popular AI into a personalized health companion. By integrating directly with electronic health records (EHRs) and major wellness platforms, ChatGPT Health will allow you to consolidate your biological history. You can keep a track of everything, from blood test results to sleep patterns, all in a single, interactive dashboard.
For millions of patients, health data is currently trapped in a disconnected web of PDF lab reports, doctors’ portals, and fitness apps. ChatGPT Health aims to solve this by partnering with b.well, a platform that connects to U.S. healthcare providers, as well as integrating with consumer giants like Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Peloton, Oura, and Function Health.
Instead of manually cross-referencing data, users can now ask complex, context-aware questions such as:
OpenAI revealed that over 230 million users already ask the platform health-related questions weekly. This update evolves that behavior from general inquiry to personalized, data-backed analysis.
Addressing immediate concerns regarding sensitive medical data, OpenAI has engineered ChatGPT Health as a completely isolated environment.
The company explicitly stated that data within ChatGPT Health is never used to train its AI models. The system operates with "enhanced privacy," keeping health memories and uploaded files strictly separate from standard ChatGPT conversations.
Additionally, the feature is built on HealthBench, a new safety evaluation framework developed with input from clinical experts to ensure responses are accurate and medically safe.
OpenAI is carefully positioning the tool as an administrative and educational aid rather than a digital doctor. The goal is to empower users to understand their own physiology and administrative hurdles, so they can have more informed conversations with human providers.
ChatGPT Health is currently rolling out via a waitlist to a limited group of users on Plus, Team, and Pro plans in the United States. While broader iOS and Web availability is expected soon, the feature is initially unavailable in the UK and Europe due to strict regulatory requirements.
