The new AI servers from Nvidia are driving unprecedented speeds for AI models, including Moonshot Kimi K2.
Nvidia revealed that its latest AI server can accelerate the performance of popular models, including China’s Moonshot AI and DeepSeek, by 10x. This development comes as Nvidia continues to solidify its dominance in AI training but faces increasing competition in deploying AI models.
Nvidia's new AI server is positioning itself as the go-to solution for handling next-generation workloads. Unlike competitors such as Advanced Micro Devices and Cerebras, Nvidia’s advantage lies in its ability to pack 72 of its cutting-edge chips into a single server, creating lightning-fast links between them that drive massive improvements in processing speed.
The Kimi K2 Thinking model from China’s Moonshot AI and DeepSeek's models have both seen significant performance boosts using Nvidia's AI server. According to the new data, the performance gains stem from the sheer number of chips Nvidia can incorporate into its servers. This is especially beneficial for AI models that require high processing power but have shorter training cycles. Nvidia’s Senior VP of AI Solutions noted;
"We've seen a 10x performance increase with the new AI servers."
These results are particularly impressive for models such as Kimi K2, which are integral to China’s burgeoning AI landscape. The performance leap is primarily due to Nvidia's custom chips and their ability to connect with each other at high speeds. This gives Nvidia a clear advantage over rivals like AMD, which is still working on a similar server architecture set for release next year.
While Nvidia has traditionally dominated the AI training market, competition is ramping up in the deployment space. AI models like those from OpenAI, Mistral, and DeepSeek have adopted a newer Mixture of Experts (MoE) style, which optimizes computational efficiency. This trend was popularized by DeepSeek's high-performing open-source model, which gained widespread attention earlier this year. Industry analyst Jennifer Lee from IDC said,
“What we are seeing is not just incremental improvement, but an entirely new approach to handling these models in production environments…Nvidia’s technological advancements are paving the way for faster, more efficient deployment at scale.”
