From April 03, 2025, Instagram is removing notes from posts and reels. The social media platform has notified its users through a warning message displayed on the “Notification ♡” screen.
Here’s the screenshot of the notification you might be coming across.
However, as the notification says, you will still have access to your previous notes for a limited time. You can access it on your Activity screen or download previous notes from the Accounts Center until June 01, 2025.
A week back, Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, had shared an official announcement of the same on his official IG handle @mosseri.
In the post, he said
“We’re going to turn off the ability to share a note on posts or reels, a feature we launched last year that didn’t end up seeing a lot of adoption. We’ll keep exploring ways to make Instagram more fun and social, but content notes wasn’t it. We’re going to keep simplifying Instagram where we can, which inevitably means being willing to turn off features that aren’t widely used. More to come.”
Instagram remains among the social media platforms that have released too many updates over the last few years, and features like Notes probably remain one of the shortest-lived Instagram features yet. The feature was just launched last year, and now it’s bidding us adieu, probably because not many folks were using it.
Anyway, let’s see what will happen next, a new feature to replace notes that folks love more than they loved notes? Or a blank state that we will be staring at when our inboxes are empty.
