Rockstar pushes GTA 6 release to May 2026, unveils action-packed new trailer set in a modern Vice City.
Rockstar Games has pushed back the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, announcing that the hotly anticipated title will now launch on May 26, 2026, instead of its previously expected late 2025 window. The company broke the news alongside a brand-new trailer — the second official look at the game — hoping to soften the blow for fans who’ve been waiting over a decade since GTA V.
“Grand Theft Auto VI is now coming May 26, 2026,” Rockstar confirmed in a press release, calling the updated timeline part of their effort to deliver the level of polish fans expect.
The delay comes amid growing pressure in the gaming industry to avoid rushed launches and buggy releases — something Rockstar seems keen to avoid.
The new trailer reintroduces players to Vice City, Rockstar’s neon-soaked version of Miami, but this time it’s bigger, louder, and way more detailed. The game expands beyond the city to the state of Leonida, featuring everything from swamplands and beaches to highways and high-rises. If you caught glimpses of the Keys or Everglades, that’s no accident — Rockstar appears to be leaning heavily into Florida’s unique vibe.
At the heart of the story is Lucia, the franchise’s first-ever female protagonist, and her partner Jason. The two are shown navigating crime, chaos, and what looks a lot like Bonnie and Clyde-style loyalty — but with TikTok and livestreams in the background. “Trust. That’s all there is,” says Lucia in one of the trailer’s opening lines, setting the tone for what looks like an emotionally charged crime saga.
Captured entirely on PlayStation 5, the trailer flaunts jaw-dropping graphics — sunsets reflecting off water, crowds reacting in real time, and fluid car chases that make GTA V look ancient. All of it is set to The Pointer Sisters’ “Hot Together,” giving the footage an infectious, upbeat energy that belies the mayhem on screen.
The trailer has racked up millions of views and likes in less than 24 hours. While the delay drew some groans, most fans seemed willing to wait. “Take your time, just make it perfect,” one commenter wrote. Another said, “I’ve waited ten years, what’s one more?”
With just over a year until launch, Rockstar is expected to gradually release more gameplay footage and details, possibly at events like Gamescom or its own showcase. Until then, fans will have to make do with trailer replays, frame-by-frame breakdowns, and a healthy dose of speculation.
