Zoho CEO and others compare AI to nuclear weapons, millions of jobs at risk

Date: April 07, 2024

CEO of Zoho and others have expressed concerns over the rapid development of AI tools. They argue that AI could put millions of jobs at risk.

According to an open letter by Sridhar Vembu, CEO of Zoho, Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Chairman of Pahle India Foundation, and Sharad Sharma, Co-founder of iSPIRT Foundation, the rapid development and proliferation of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google's Bard, Microsoft's Bing Chat, MidJourney, Dall-E, and others are cause for concern.

They argue that AI could put millions of jobs at risk, making it just as catastrophic as nuclear weapons and cloning. The signees call for policymakers, tech pundits, academicians, and think tanks to join the debate on all things AI.

They believe that public policies are needed to ensure that no one monopolizes AI and that there are no toll gates. In a separate post, Vembu discusses the pros and cons of AI, emphasizing the need for regulation and ethical considerations.

It's time to take a closer look at the impact of AI on our society and economy. We need to engage in urgent national and international debates and develop public policies that promote a healthy evolution of AI while protecting against monopolies and economic disruption.
