Yes you weren't using Google Assistant till now
Google announces to launch all-new ‘smart displays’ but the announcement that made the news is the addition of Google Assistant to Android Auto. Confused? Yes, the search giant announced that it is adding the Google assistant to Android Auto because it wasn't there before. All the capabilities that users were using in Android Auto were supported by Google Speech. Now, the company is integrating Google Assistant support into the App and making it smarter.
Going forward the difference you will feel is that till now it was only the Google voice search and going forward it will be smart Google Assistant with smarter suggestions. Now, when the app is loaded with Google Assistant there are numerous functionalities for the users. With the upgrade, the users now will be able to do a bunch of activities like controlling home lights, checking the status of their car, controlling certain aspects like door locks. Moreover, the app will take the help of Google assistant to offer better suggestion and will respect your preferences in music. However, there will be no change in giving commands to the Android Auto, you can ask in the same way by saying ‘ Hey Google’.
Previously, the users were only bound to ask for music, directions and few more commands. The latest addition will make the Android Auto more handy for the users. In addition to this Google is also working to add more functionalities to the App. Soon the company will add options like reserving your parking spot with the help of SpotHero. The app will also allow the user to order their favorite handcrafted drink or food from Starbucks while driving and can collect on the go. However, all the functionalities are limited to the voice command only so, Google is asking the developers to make their voice interaction more effective and less shaky. The Android Auto features are available to Mercedes Benz, BMW and Hyundai and the company promised to launch for Kia and Fiat Chrysler soon.
Once you update the app the Google Assistant bubbles will start appearing sometimes on the screen. Google employees call these bubbles as doodles because it somehow looks likes one, they even say ‘Hey doodle’ instead of ‘Hey Google’ sometimes and it works half of the time. Isn't it fun? You should also try sometime.
