Portions of Twitter’s source code were reportedly leaked online, raising concerns of user data breach and hacking.
According to a recent report by the New York Times, portions of Twitter's source code were leaked online, potentially compromising user data and opening up the possibility of hacking attempts.
Twitter has already claimed copyright infringement and taken down the offending code from Github, where it had been posted. However, it's unclear how long the code had been up or the extent of the leak.
In response, Twitter has asked the US District Court for the Northern District of California to order Github to reveal the identity of the user who posted the code, as well as those who accessed and downloaded it. What's more concerning is that Twitter executives suspect that the leak might be the work of a disgruntled employee who had left within the last year.
This raises questions about the company's security measures and employee retention policies. It's also worth noting that this leak occurred under the watch of new Twitter boss Elon Musk, who purchased the platform last October for $44 billion.
This latest development could be the final straw for Twitter users and advertisers who have already been concerned about the site's increasingly temperamental functionality and resurgence of scammers and white nationalists since Musk's takeover.
Twitter has a responsibility to ensure the safety and security of its users' data, and this leak raises serious concerns about the platform's ability to do so. In conclusion, it's important for Twitter users to be vigilant and take extra precautions to protect their personal information.
