Nepal has officially put a ban on PUBG mobile in order to prevent violence and restrict the youth of the country from becoming addicted to it. Several letters received from the parents and schools complaining about the effects of PUBG on their children prompted the government to put a ban on PUBG.
The ban on PUBG was initially started after Nepal Metropolitan Crime Division officially filed a Public Interest Litigation against PUBG mobile ban. The request was accepted and the information passed on to Nepal Telecommunications Authority to issue an order of cease-and-desist to the country’s Internet service provider and telecommunications companies.
PUBG has been banned in some parts of Gujarat, including Surat, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath. The circular is also making rounds in schools, mentioning the government’s order to schools to ban the Player Unknown’s Battle Ground game.
What nonsense is this?! People are getting arrested just for playing #PUBG? Now Govt will lecture us on what mobile games to play? Government is not a parent of every child in the country! pic.twitter.com/FmBz5O2tQk — Dhruv Rathee (@dhruv_rathee) March 13, 2019
Following the PUBG ban via the Gujarat government, the police made the arrest of 10 college students in Rajkot for violating the rules and were booked under the IPC 188 and Gujarat Police Act (GPA) 135.
Manoj Agarwal, IPS and Commissioner of Police Rajkot City told to Mint,
“The youngsters were caught violating the notification and so legal action was taken against them. They were immediately bailed out and now the courts will take a call on the matter."
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Tamil Nadu released a ban on the PUBG online game on the campus of the University. The Chief Warden of Men’s Hostel issued a circular indicating that playing online games like PUBG will no longer be entertained anymore in the campus.
It was alleged that students who are not playing the game also get disturbed due to it and lead to spoiling the entire atmosphere of the hostel. It was suggested by University to “give more importance to their career growth.”
PIL was filed to Gujarat High Court by the Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) challenging the ban on PUBG mobile. The IFF complained that the PUBG ban leads to a violation of Articles 14, 19 and 21 of the Indian Constitution.
But the efforts by an organization that is defending net neutrality, freedom, privacy & innovation in India have gone in vain as the Gujarat High Court has dismissed their PIL.
The Gujarat High Court has declined to hear our petition challenging the ban on PUBG and the subsequent arrests. We will continue fighting the good fight and consult our lawyers to figure out the way forward. https://t.co/FkF6qLSzGm pic.twitter.com/LiMJbH1c5l — Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) (@internetfreedom) April 11, 2019
PUBG Mobile developers said,
“Constructive dialogue with relevant authorities to explain our objectives and that they withdraw the prohibition.”
PUBG mobile introduced “Healthy Gaming System” feature, a six-hour time restriction for users in India. But some users are reporting that this feature had a glitch because few users are unable to play the PUBG even if they stay under the time limit.
