In what seems like breaking news in the tech realm, OpenAI partners with Apple to integrate ChatGPT across Apple’s wide range of devices.
Apple AI has been lagging behind in capabilities, attractiveness, and advancement over its direct rivals, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Gemini. While others are launching, upgrading, and upscaling their AI services, Apple has been stuck between innovation and user security it has kept intact for decades. Taking a leap into the AI world, Apple has announced forming a strategic partnership to share technologies and platforms, offering a wholesome spectrum of AI features offered across all Apple device platforms.
The new Apple AI services will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and any Mac device with an M series chip inside. Devices belonging to lower versions will not be able to run the AI capabilities, so they will miss out on almost every AI feature the company will offer through this strategic partnership. Elon Musk, the CEO of X, however, is not happy that OpenAI partners with Apple to the extent of OS-level integration.
He claims that this step will bring multiple privacy issues for Apple’s end-users, and can also risk the privacy of other users around the Apple devices that will allow AI features. However, for the ones who are excited to know what this partnership will bring for them, here are the top upcoming AI features.
The easiest way to access ChatGPT on iOS devices will be through Siri. This features continues the age-old legacy of interactions with Siri, while enhancing the outcomes using ChatGPT’s AI features. Users can ask Siri to find documents, bring up a music video link that a friend shared last week, and much more. Siri also glows in a new light when you activate it.
The AI features introduced on iOS 18 and above platforms will make its access almost entirely conversational. ChatGPT’s OS-level integration allows a higher understanding of topic and tasks on iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Apart from the ChatGPT integration, all devices equipped with the M series chips will be able to run Apple Intelligence services seamlessly. For instance; the on-device capabilities will help in finding the Driver’s License document from files, and filling the details in a form, validating them with the users, and finally submitting them.
Users can activate continuous AI monitoring on their devices, which the company promises is neither stored or used for training by Apple. The personal information remains on the device while offering advanced task-performing capabilities.
ChatGPT will come inbuilt and pre-installed in the new Apple devices for free, giving access to edit photos, generate text, and proofread documents for users. Voice prompt-based instructions like removing a background or a certain person from a photo can be performed at ease using these AI features.
iPhones and other Apple devices also support various AI apps that are offered by Apple’s peers like Google, Anthropic, among others. The end consumer has gotten a good taste of what various GenAI chatbots can do for them, and Apple has a high benchmark to reach and overpower for a leadership position in the AI industry
