Google is everywhere. It usually keeps a record of everything you search and everywhere you go. Although Google gives us the functionality of deleting the search history, but it is a heck of a task to delete the web and app activity manually.
But not anymore!
Recently Google announced that from now on users can delete Google search activity and their location history. In its blog post, Google introduced ‘auto-delete controls for your Location History and activity data.’
Users can auto-delete their google web history and location history by enabling a time limit option for how long you are allowing Google to save your data. There are two options for the time limit, one is 3 months and another is 18 months. This will limit the time of data that Google stored in its servers.
San-Francisco based headquartered company stated in its blog post,
“You can already use your Google Account to access simply on/off controls for Location History and Web & App Activity, and if you choose—to delete all or part of that data manually. In addition to these options, we’re announcing auto-delete controls that make it even easier to manage your data
The recommendations that we used to get on the basis of our web and app activity’ shared data, will be now based on the limited data stored but will be less accurate.
The new feature of automatically deleting google history has been rolled out after companies like Google and Facebook got criticism for not doing sufficient to protect the privacy of users. Facebook also highlighted the privacy issue in its F8 developer conference.
The feature is currently released for web and app activity as well as location history including your Chrome search history. It will also include the notification history from Google’s Discover feature on Android and locations you searched in Google Maps.
Apart from the above data, there are still a lot of data in our Google Account that is not added in this auto-delete history service such as YouTube search and watch history. But we can soon expect the inclusion of more data as well. Still is a big step towards safeguarding the privacy rights of users.
