Just a couple of days before, Google Maps were updated with new features and design transformations. And now on the same lines, Apple has started working to infuse new elements in its Map app. Though Apple Maps do lack a lot of features that you can easily get in its rival app but with the addition of features like satellite imagery, pedestrian navigation, and more, Apple is right in the race.
In a recent interview with TechCrunch, Apple pointed out the tremendous efforts the company has injected in the last six years, and with that experience, the company is set to overhaul Apple Maps from scratch.
“Since we introduced this six years ago — we won’t rehash all the issues we’ve had when we introduced it — we’ve done a huge investment in getting the map up to par,” says Apple SVP Eddy Cue, head of Apple Maps, in an interview with TechCrunch. “When we launched, a lot of it was all about directions and getting to a certain place. Finding the place and getting directions to that place. We’ve done a huge investment of making millions of changes, adding millions of locations, updating the map and changing the map more frequently. All of those things over the past six years.”

However, Cue agreed on the fact that there is indeed room to improve on the quality of Maps.
“We wanted to take this to the next level,” says Cue. “We have been working on trying to create what we hope is going to be the best map app in the world, taking it to the next step. That is building all of our own map data from the ground up.”

To make its maps more effective, Apple is imitating Google Maps by combining satellite imagery with data collected by its mapping vehicles to add details like shapes of buildings, foliage, and walking paths.
Apple won’t be altering anything in the Map’s visual style. Cue further said, “We don’t want to combine those two things at the same time because it would cause a lot of confusion.”

The whole revamp of the Apple Maps seems to be exciting but the final expected rollout of the map is over next year, and there is still time before everything gets into its place.
