Acer is known for setting the high standard in the laptop industry with technology evolution every year. The company is already known as the manufacturer of the thinnest laptops in the world and it seems like Acer wants to hold onto the title for long. At CES 2018 the company introduces Acer Swift 7, the thinnest laptop ever launched globally. Acer has done an appreciable work on its Swift 7 model to provide some of the major upgrades with a sleek design and powerful specification under the hood. In order to make the laptop thinnest of all, the company has sacrificed the clickable touchpad. However, the advance futuristic ultrabook with premium design comes with an exponential hike in the price.
The Acer Swift 7 looks pretty convincing on the paper with defined configuration, let's break it down to know whether it is worth the hefty price tag or not.
What a design to look at, yes the Acer Swift 7 will steal your heart at the first look as its only 8.98 mm thick. The thinnest laptop will slip in your hands just like that and it is too light to carry with you anywhere. The ultrabook is made up of an aluminum unibody with a dark color to make it look premium. The overall design is something that you just can't stop looking. The upper lid is well finished and seems smooth at the sides, there are two hinges that help it in rotating up to 180 degrees. The 14-inch bezel-less IPS display is amazing that pops the colors in the right range to provide a quality experience. The widescreen makes the content look wider and you will be amazed at the display.
However, the camera is placed beneath the screen instead of the top, similar thing we have seen in Dell XPS 13. The webcam looks good but the placement is not quite satisfying, as we have seen some of the thin bezel-less ultrabooks having the webcam at the top. In Spite of being too slim, the Keyboard of the Acer Swift 7 works amazingly, the key travel is comfortable and fast, it feels like you are used to of typing on it. In addition, there is no clickable touchpad, this means no more clicking sound. Yes, for making the Swift 7 the thinnest laptop in the world, Acer has removed the conventional Keypad with the touch. Touching the pad with one finger will work as the left controller and the right clicking can be done by touching the pad with two fingers.
For now, we can't talk much about the performance of the Acer Swift 7 as we haven't got the laptop yet. Once the device will be available, we make it go through our tests and provide you the in-depth review. The laptop will be coming with a blazing fast 7 generation Intel Core i7 processor and will be coupled with an 8GB DDR3 RAM and 256GB of internal storage. That will make sure that the laptop will process with the super speed and will not have any trouble while operating multiple tasks. The full HD display is enough to take you on a thrilling experience while enjoying high-quality content on Acer Swift 7. Acer claims the battery of the laptop to be last up to 10 hours on heavy use but we know that it will definitely serve a few hours lesser than that. The most promising feature that we are looking forward to is the support for the 4G LTE network through Intel XMM modem that supports both eSIM and the Nano SIM.
For connectivity, the Swift 7 will have only two USB 3.1 ports and along with an audio jack at the side panel.
Acer announced the laptop earlier this year and also mentioned that it will be launching Swift 7 in the first quarter of 2018. However, there is no news about the launch yet, maybe company is preparing the device and pushed forward the launch. We believe that the Swift 7 will come into the market somewhere in August and September, Acer Swift 7 price has already been given by the company at the CES 2018, the laptop will be coming with a price tag starting from $1699.
There is no doubt that Acer has done a great job with Swift 7 and introduced something that is hard to challenge. The design is sleek and being thinnest laptop makes it look attractive than any other ultrabook available in the market. However, in order to keep the throne of world's thinnest laptop maker, the company has dropped the clickable touchpad and shifted the webcam to the bottom of the screen. On one side Acer Swift 7 is an amazing laptop that will make your friends envy you for holding the beauty in your hand. But on the other hand, the cost of the laptop could be too expensive and you can get the same specs by spending comparatively less money so it's a hard choice to make.
