Where almost every smartphone giant has already launched their next generation device in 2018, Nokia is still hiding something in its bag. The company is secretly working on a new smartphone that could come in the mid-range. However, there is no official information about the upcoming Nokia phone, all we have are rumors and leaks. According to the resources the phone could come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset. Interestingly, the leaked information also suggests that new Nokia phone won't be following the usual design like Nokia 7 or Nokia 8. The phone has not been named yet, but it is expected to be named; Phoenix’. Besides, HMD global is planning to provide some premium features in its mid-range smartphone to compete against the rivals like OnePlus and Xiaomi.
HMD/Nokia Mobile is working on a Snapdragon 710 based device to be released in the autumn/winter 2018 timeframe. Codename is "Phoenix". Oh and btw, the Google SDM710 based device apparently is called "Bonito".— Roland Quandt (@rquandt) June 4, 2018
For now, there is no solid information available about Phoenix as the company is keeping it low. However, we have few leaks that point towards a design that we could paint on paper using our imagination. According to the rumors, Nokia will be following the latest notch design trend with its Phoenix smartphone to attain a larger screen to body ratio. The Nokia phone is expected to come with the 6.2-inch screen having iPhone like notch at the top. To make a phone with the full screen, the company will take the bezel-less approach. The Phoenix is expected to come with a glass design that will also bring the wireless charging.
Nokia will continue to give the flat surface at the sides to the phone instead of a curved design like Samsung Galaxy S9. The rear camera will be placed at the center on the back side just above the fingerprint sensor. Besides, there is a possibility that Nokia could use the facial scanning authentication for unlocking the phone. Phoenix could come with the dimension similar to Nokia 8 but with a more sleek design. There are also some rumors that suggest the Phoenix could be the double touch screen phone that Nokia has been working on for a long time now. However, we are not sure about this as there is no authentic information available.
Nokia Phoenix could come with a 5.7 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen but we believe that the company should think about the AMOLED display like Samsung. The Nokia phone is expected to offer 1080 X 2160 pixels resolution that will make a great combination with a larger screen. According to the leaks, the Nokia phone will have the 18:9 aspect ratio with the help of notch display. The screen will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. On internal support, the Nokia Phoenix will comprise a lot of power under the hood as it is expected to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset. Roland Quandt, who seems to be an expert in splitting the beans for smartphone makers also claimed Phoenix to have a 710 chipset. This chipset lies between the Snapdragon 600 and Snapdragon 800 series. Though the Snapdragon 710 is less powerful compared to 845, it comes with 20% increased speed and 40 % lesser power consumption. The Nokia smartphone could come with a Quad core processor that will be lined up with 6/8 GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There is not much information available about the camera, but we all know that it will be built by Zeiss, the longtime camera partner of Nokia. The Phoenix is expected to come with a dual rear camera having powerful lenses and a selfie booster in front.
The Nokia Phoenix is still under the development, and we don't expect it to come soon. The rumors suggest that the phone may come somewhere in Autumn/Winter 2018. Nokia is known for keeping its upcoming device a secret until it decides to launch it officially. However, the leaks and rumors in the smartphone industry are inevitable so we will keep you posted about the Nokia Phoenix release date in future.
Just like the release date, the price of the Nokia smartphone is a mystery to us for now. Guessing the price of Nokia Phoenix will be too early as we are still waiting for more features and details to come on the surface. Though considering the phone’s chipset and rumors available, it is expected to hit the market with a hefty price tag.
