Google denies allegations of training Bard with OpenAI's ChatGPT data

Date: April 05, 2024

A former Google AI researcher has alleged that Google trained Bard using data from OpenAI's ChatGPT. However, the company has denied all the allegations.

According to a report by The Information, a former Google AI researcher has alleged that Google trained its AI chatbot, Bard, using data from OpenAI's ChatGPT.

The report suggests that Google scraped the data from a website called ShareGPT, which would violate OpenAI's terms of service. However, Google has denied these allegations and stated that Bard was not trained on any data from ShareGPT or ChatGPT

According to a Google spokesperson, "perhaps it threw out that portion of the training, too." Interestingly, Google is reportedly pulling in its DeepMind division to help the Google Brain team beat OpenAI with a new initiative called Gemini. DeepMind has been trying and failing to become more independent from Google for many years.

This development is noteworthy because it raises questions about the ethics of data usage and the competition between tech giants in the AI space. It also highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in the development and deployment of AI systems.
