  • A bit bulky

The 4G support was first offered by Apple on its Series 3 smartwatch that lets the user receive calls, notifications and much more, that too without keeping your phone nearby. But sadly, it was for only iPhones users. To fill this gap, Chinese technology firm stepped in and came out with a smartwatch that can match the reputation of Series 3 watch. Apart from Samsung Gear S3, Watch 2 by Huawei is the only cellular-equipped Android-capable watch available in the market right now. Though, Huawei watch lightly resembles Samsung's Gear S3.

Huawei Watch 2 comes in two variants- Sports (4G) and classic, letting the user make up his mind as per convenience. The watch looks more like a stylish traditional-looking round watch with a sporty new look. The smartwatch duly supports Android Wear 2.0 that lets the user connect it to their smartphones.

A virtual replacement of your smartphone for workout sessions

The earlier smartwatches by Huawei sported premium metal finish to their look which used to look classy, but with the new addition to the family,  Watch 2 is more like sporty and rugged to wear.

The strong built is perfect for hardcore training sessions. The overall size has also been slightly increased than its previous siblings. To some people, the watch may feel bulky.

There is a fair addition of plastic and minimal bezel on the sides of the watch, but the display size is considerably small which may sometimes make you struggle to take a look at your watch and it will be more arduous for you, in case you chose to use an on-screen keyboard. Watch 2 screen resolution sits in the middle which seems good enough for normal day to day use. In case you keep meddling with your smartwatch, its touch response won’t disappoint you.

On the connectivity ground, Huawei Watch 2 offers NFC connectivity, which enables Android Play. The Watch 2 runs smoothly with all the Android smartphones running Android 4.3 and above. Right now, there are only handful of apps that offer 4G support like Google Play Music, Uber, and Facebook Messenger. It is hard to believe how Huawei is able to stuff so many features like GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi, a heart rate monitor, and slot for the 4G sim in it. It really looked astonishing to me and even after that, you won’t feel much burden on your wrist.

Downloading apps on smartwatch was never that easy

The best part of Huawei Watch 2 is that the user will be able to unfold exclusive app directly on the watch itself, all thanks to Android Wear 2.0 update.

Thus, now the user can directly download apps on the watch itself. Another splendid feature that is inculcated in this smartwatch is the payment option. The user can pay for anything with just a swipe on the smartwatch, only if your bank permits. Now, that calls for some applause.

The battery performance of Watch 2 is moderately balanced. If you wish to use the smartwatch without sim card, then it will last for almost two days on a single charge. And with a sim, the smartwatch will be required to plug-in at the end of every day. In case, you need to better its performance, Watch 2 can be switched to ‘watch mode’ also which will keep it running for next 18 days.

The Verdict

If you need something which floats like a cult in the smartwatch market, then Huawei Watch 2 should be your pick. The feature-packed watch is ideally aimed at the fitness crowd. The fitness option that this watch pack is something worth appreciating and that too in the absence of your smartphone. The watch will surely ease your life more than a bit with its unmatched features.

The price of Watch 2 may steer you away from the thought of buying it, but if can afford it, you fully deserve it.
