The Asian smartphone market is quite hard to compete for the manufacturer as it has some diverse demands. Where Samsung was ruling the market for a long time with its affordable smartphones, Xiaomi has taken over the crown now. Xiaomi with its pocket-friendly smartphones offering all the latest upgrades making the company a big name especially in the Indian market. However, the flagship smartphones from the company like Mi Max was also a successful product that rivaled the big names. In February, the company launched three products including Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro and Mi TV 4. The smartphones are the perfect match for the market with its latest hardware support and pocket-friendly price tag.
The best under budget phone with 4/6GB RAM in 2018 so far
In order to know how exactly the phone performs in the hands, we have reviewed the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro.
The company follows its full metal unibody design with the Note 5 Pro adding a well-finished surface. Joining the latest 18:9 ratio trend the display looks much bigger than its predecessor with the bezel-less design. However, the phone isn't the first Xiaomi phone to get the bezel-less front, Mi Max 2 was launched with the same approach last year by the company. The front side is ‘all the display’ thing with the sensors and front camera at the top containing all on-screen button at the bottom. Flip the phone you will find an iPhone X like a vertically placed camera with a dual lens containing the flashlight in between them. The fingerprint sensor is positioned at the same place where Xiaomi likes to put it in all of its phones. The 5.99 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is made up of the aluminum frame with the curved corners that makes it very comfortable to hold in the hand. The phone comes with the 3.5mm jack and the mono speaker at the bottom.
As Xiaomi is known for not disappointing the users with its hardware support in the pocket-friendly smartphones, this one is no exception. Redmi Note 5 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset to power the Octa-core 1.8 GHz Kryo 260 processor. The processing unit of the phone is coupled with the 4/6GB and 64GB internal storage that is expandable up to 256GB. The powerful hardware support of the phone is paired with a dual camera that contains a 12MP lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP lens with f/2.0 aperture having the phase detection autofocus, panorama, and HDR capabilities. The front camera contains a powerful 20MP lens with 1080p support along with a front flash. The company has given Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 P Android 7.1 .2(Nougat) as the operating system that works perfectly fine. However, the Xiaomi also promised the users to provide the Android upgrade for the phone soon. There is also a 4000 mAh non-removable battery in the smartphone that keeps it running for a longer time.
During the review, we made sure to put the phone under all the possible hard situations for a small phone. But, the performance of the phone was incredible and it performed up to the mark. The apps were running smooth and there was no lag while switching between the apps. Moreover, the audio quality of the phone is good along with a long-standing power backup due to the massive 4000 mAh battery. However, we struggled only with the speaker of the Note 5 Pro while placing the phone in landscape mode as the speakers are positioned at the bottom. The camera experience was also quite amazing, the primary camera is capable of giving good snaps even in the low-light. We have tried almost every feature that the phone’s camera has to offer and it didn't disappoint us. The image quality is amazing with the sharp colors and actual shades. The Bokeh effect is the bonus that works flawlessly to give you professional shot. The front camera is equipped with the Beautify 4.0 AI algorithm that helps in getting a perfect selfie.
Prior to the review of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, we were expecting an underperforming phone in thIS budget but the phone surprised us. The phone is undoubtedly the best in the budget with excellent performance. The powerful specification and hardware support is not just the paper written thing, it actually works well. We didn't notice a bug or the phone slowing down during the experience so far. So, we are giving our thumbs up to the Redmi Note 5 pro.
The phone comes in two different RAM variants depending on your choice, the 4GB RAM models cost $210 and the 6GB costs $255. Once again Xiaomi has proven that it is capable of offering the powerful smartphones with budget-friendly costs. In the last quarter of 2017, the company defeated Samsung in India and has taken over the number one spot. If you are looking for a phone with big display and powerful processing unit without making a hole in your pocket then Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is the best choice for now.
