  • Compact size is a plus point
  • Bigger screen compared to Nexus 5
  • Good quality rear camera
  • Light weighted

  • No wireless charging
  • Short battery life
  • 32/64Gb memory with no microSD card slot

Google always experiments with the upgrades of its premium flagship smartphones in order to reach a maximum number of users. Google launched the Nexus 5X back in September 2015 for users looking for a compact smartphone. The device is compact and embedded with the hardware support that is fast for an average user. In comparison to Nexus 6 and Nexus 6P, the 5X contains a smaller display. But, not everyone is comfortable in handling the 6-inch  long display. Google Nexus 5X now have the support for Android Oreo that makes it, even more, faster and enables to support advanced features of Android

5.2-inch display with compact size is convenient to handle with one hand

Offers 2 GB RAM with 32/64GB internal storage without MicroSD card slot

The compact smartphone with almost everything inside it makes it perfect for the users with a limited budget. Google claims it to be the most effective compact Nexus smartphone in this range with all essential features. In order to know how exactly device works and performs, I operated the device and came out with final Google Nexus review.

Google Nexus 5X Design

  • Compact design with good finishing
  • Easy handle with one hand
  • Full plastic body with premium looks

Nexus 5X carries a delicate and perfectly finished body, Google Nexus 5X comes with the 5.3-inch display. The Nexus phone is very convenient to use with one hand, with the elongated display my finger wasn't able to touch the opposite corner of the phone. The phone is lighter than its predecessor and only 7.9mm thick, which makes it look slim. The Nexus phone looks like it has been designed perfectly to fit into your hand. The screen size seems to be balanced that is large enough to conveniently handle within a single hand. There is a small bezel that includes the speaker at the bottom and the sensors with front camera at the top. The rear camera is a little bit bulged out, maybe Google wanted to add some design tweak but that didn't work out well. There is an LED Flash besides the camera and a fingerprint sensor just above the Nexus logo. The entire body of the phone is made up plastic that gives it more of a premium look. Google Nexus 5 back panel is also coated with the soft touch polycarbonate for giving a comfortable experience while holding.

The phone’s device is amazing, as all the components fit into the definition of a compact smartphone. Google Nexus 5X was too easy to carry and it doesn't even make me feel like I am using a smaller phone with a 5.2-inch display.

Google Nexus 5X Display

  • 5.2 inch IPS LCD display
  • 70.2 percent screen to body ratio
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 3

The phone's display is the most important component as it is the first thing that every user notices and Google understands this well. The Nexus 5X sports a 51. Inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display. The screen comes with 1920 X 1080 pixels resolution having the 70.1 percent screen to body ratio that delivers an amazing interactive experience. The screen is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Google enlarged the screen form 4.9 inch that was incorporated in the Nexus 5. LG has given the Quad HD display to the Nexus 5 that was a bit of unnecessary to a smaller phone, as it looks the same and consumes more battery. Apart from this, you won't see much of a difference in the display than its predecessor. However, there is a little tweak in the elongated screen, there are now five apps fits across the screen instead of four.

Google Nexus 5X Specifications

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset
  • Hexa Core 1.4 GHz Cortex A53 processor
  • 2GB RAM with 32/64GB internal storage
  • 12.3 MP rear camera
  • Dual LED flash
  • 5MP front camera

Google tried to come up with a device that is compact but didn't suffer from the performance point. This is the reason Nexus 5X have powerful hardware support from the latest component. The device owns a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset that is coupled with a Hexa Core 1.4 GHz Cortex A53 processor. The processing unit of the phone is powered by 2GB RAM with the 32GB or 64GB internal storage. Nexus 5X doesn't own a separate card slot that means the memory isn't upgradeable, which is understandable as the company is offering a compact device at a cheaper price. Along with this, the Nexus smartphone comes with a powerful 12.3MP rear camera having a f/2.0 aperture. The camera offers the features including laser autofocus, touch autofocus, Geo-tagging, HDR, and Panorama. There is dual LED dual tone flash beside the camera that magnifies the image quality. The rear camera is capable of capturing the good quality images in the low-light. In addition, there is a 5MP front camera that also comes with f/2.0 aperture and the HDR compatibility.  At the bottom of the phone, there is a USB-C type port for charging the and phone.

Google Nexus 5X comprises a well-sculpted fingerprint sensor at the back of the phone. The sensor is positioned at a similar place at the back panel that other Nexus devices own. With the compact size of the Nexus 5X is is very easy to reach the sensor and unlock the phone in a single attempt. Considering the price and the specification I was expecting the fingerprint to be slow, but it surprised me fast and accurate results.

The Nexus 5X comes with 27000 mAH battery that doesn't last for long while using the smartphone. Google Nexus 5X is consist of Quad HD display and a Snapdragon 808 processor which requires a huge power to run. The smaller battery isn't able to keep the phone running for long and if you a game lover than the battery life is a concern for you.

The Verdict

If you are among the people who always wanted Nexus at an affordable price, then the Nexus 5X is everything you asked for. However, Google Nexus 5X doesn't have the premium Nexus smartphone features and the high-end specification like Nexus 6P. But, the affordable price of answers all the specs related question. On the bright side the phone works well, performance is good, the fingerprint sensor is amazing, the camera captures good quality images and there is no issue while switching between the apps. Overall the Nexus 5X worth the price and a great choice for the users with a limited budget.
