Asus, the Taiwanese based multinational tech innovator company is serious about its smartphone market. The company has been working really hard since last three years to change its approach towards mid-range smartphone users. Where one side Asus provides high-end gaming smartphones it simultaneously working on the budget-friendly mobiles. The company has recently unveiled Asus Rogue, the hardcore gaming smartphone that comes with very high gaming specifications. Asus uses its Zenfone line up to offer a budget-friendly and powerful smartphone to the users. The company is frequently launching new updates on the line up in order to catch up with the rivals like Xiaomi and Samsung. In February Asus launched Asus Zenfone 5 lite which is the affordable variant of the lineup. The Asus smartphone came with alluring specification and pretty attractive price range. However, not all the budget-friendly smartphones work as their manufacturer claims.
Get powerful hardware support at minimum cost
To know whether Asus has chances in the mid-range smartphone market with Zenfone 5 lite or not we have to review the phone thoroughly. Here we have inspected the phone at the elementary level to know whether its worthy upgrade from the company or not. The smartphone was launched beside Asus Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5z.
Asus Zenfone 5 lite is the most important iteration in the lineup launched by the company this year. The smartphone follows the similar design pattern of Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5z but as a cheaper variant. Asus Zenfone 5 Lite owns the glossy metal design with unibody pattern that makes look premium. At the front, you will see a 6-inch long screen with a bright colored display. On the front, you will see bezel that Asus uses to claim bezel-less, but clearly, there is a visible bezel. However, Asus has made it smaller than the previous iteration of the bezel, and it looks great. At the back of the phone, you see vertically positioned the dual camera at the center accompanied by fingerprint sensor beneath it. At the sides of the phone, you will see an aluminum frame running on both sides of the phone covering round corners. Till date, Asus Zenfone 5 lite design is the most delicate and attractive in the entire line from Asus.
The Asus phone weighs only 168 grams which is a great thing considering the phone’s size. Along with this, both front and the back of the phone are covered with glass which improves the quality of the body.
When it comes to the hardware support Asus Zenfone 5 lite, it has powerful setup considering the price. With the smartphone, you will get a 6 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. The display of the phone comes with the support of 1080 X 2160 pixel resolution and provides 18:9 aspect ratio. The increased aspect ratio is possible due to the less bezel around the display for better user experience. With a small bezel and 18:9 aspect ratio Zenfone 5 lite images to achieve 75.9% screen to body ratio. However, the screen to body ratio of it siblings is much larger due to the addition of notch design.
The technical support includes Qualcomm SDM630 Snapdragon 630 Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 chipset that is quite powerful for optimum performance. The chipset of the phone is coupled with an Octa-core 2.2 GHz Cortex-A53/Octa-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 processing unit that makes the phone capable of providing great performance. The CPU and the chipset of the phone are backed up by the upgraded RAM along with increased internal storage. Zenfone 5 lite comes in two different options where you can either have 32GB internal storage with 3GB RAM or 64GB storage with 4GB of RAM.
Now, coming to the camera department which surprisingly consists of quite powerful hardware support. The rear camera poses a dual lens combo including the pair of a 16MP lens having f/2.0 aperture. The front camera of the Asus phone incorporates a 20MP camera along with a LED flash for high-quality selfies. The rear camera of the phone is amazing despite having just 16MP lenses. The primary lens captures the high-quality images while the secondary lens enables the bokeh effect. During the review, we have taken a few images from both rears, and front camera and all seem great.
The overall performance of the Asus phone is fine, games were smooth, and the heavy apps performed well. Switching between the apps was quick, and I never felt the phone is lagging while overusing it. Along with this, Asus Zenfone 5 Lite runs on Android 8.0 Oreo which you need to upgrade. The 3300 mAh non-removable Li-ion battery powers the Asus phone.
The Asus smartphone is the affordable variant in its latest lineup that comes with great specifications. Asus launched the Zenfone with the price tag of Rs.24990 in India. Considering the available features and hardware support of the price is reasonable and also falls under affordable range.
During the testing period, we have used the Asus Zenfone almost one week and it performed well. There was no issue with the phone’s performance while using the light and even heavy apps. I personally tried some of the high power demanding games that run smoothly on the phone. However, the low battery could interrupt your gaming experience, and you need to make sure that phone is fully charged. Apart from this, the Asus phone’s camera is really impressive, and the front 20 MP camera with LED is the cherry on top. However, the phone notch-less design could restrain you from buying it if you look at the other Zenfone 5 variant. But, Zenfone 5 lite gets the full marks when it comes to its performance compared to other mid-range smartphones available right now.
Where to buy: MSRP $356.00
