Date: March 26, 2024

Photos or Videos! What attracts you more on Instagram?

Over the years, Instagram has grown into a social media heavyweight and is now a complete powerhouse amongst social networks. You might want to reconsider if you think any different in 2018.

When Facebook bought Instagram for a whopping $1 billion in 2012, it raised plenty of eyebrows. The gamble seems to have clearly paid off, as Instagram is now worth $100 billion.

With features such as videos, direct messaging, and advertising, Instagram became a powerful tool for marketers, overshadowing others channels in the competition.

Photos or Videos?

According to an analysis report by Quintly, Video posts on Instagram profiles between January and September 2018 witnessed a jump of 21.2 percent in interactions than other media types.

Profiles with more followers seem to clearly understand this trend with 27 percent videos in their posts compared to smaller profiles with only 9 percent videos of their total feed.

Influencers also tend to use carousel format (mixing up to 10 photos or videos as a single post that friends can swipe through), more often than other Instagrammers.

Overall, the majority of Instagram posts are images (72.6 percent) as compared to videos (17.6 percent).

Post Description

Instagram is mostly known for visual inspirations and quick entertainment, so it came as a surprise that 31 percent of overall Instagram posts have more than 300 characters in their post description. On the other hand, only 1 percent of posts use no description at all.

Hashtags

Hashtags are an important tool for growing your Instagram presence by making your posts reach more audience. The distribution of the number of hashtags on Instagram posts are as follows:

  • 36.2 percent of the users used only 1-3 hashtags
  • 21.9 percent used hashtags between 4 to 10
  • 13 percent used 10+ hashtags
  • 28.9 percent used zero or no hashtags at all

Emoji

Do you ever use emojis to express yourself on Social media?Posts with 1-3 emojis gather the highest engagement rates but it came as a surprise when the study highlighted that 54.9 percent of profiles don’t use emojis at all.

Lastly, the finding confirms that interactions and engagements on Instagram posts are highest on weekends or more accurately 22.3 percent.
With all these updates, you can chalk out a new strategy of your Instagram account and fuel your growth to the new heights.
