PUBG, Tencent's adaptation of the popular Battle Royale, has jumped on the bandwagon by surpassing more than 100 million dollars in revenue on App Store and Google Play. We know that the last player-standing shooter game has gone places when it hits such a significant milestone in just under 200 days. This PUBG Mobile Revenue report has been handed out by an app-tracking firm Sensor Tower.
However, a $100 million milestone might sound convincing to all the PUBG lovers; it might be a little frustrating for the Tencent to acknowledge the fact that Fortnite did cover this marvel much faster than PUBG mobile.
The strife between PUBG and Fortnite, trying to corner the market is real, and they both are trying not to lose their grip over new records. Both Fortnite from Epic Games and Knives Out from NetEase were able to hit the milestone in much fewer days. Fortnite ended up grossing $300 million in 200 days, which is more than twice as fast than PUBG. The element which is also worth noting is that Fortnite’s number is solely based off of income from App Store.
Is PUBG not as popular as Fortnite or Knives Out? When it comes to the reputation of a brand, PUBG is behind in the queue to Fortnite. The reason why PUBG Cell's revenue is much slower in China is that Tencent released the game after China froze all new-game licenses in their nation. That is going to ache for a long time as Tencent lost the battle in its home ground.
Despite not contributing financially to the game, China holds the largest participant base for PUBG Mobile, holding roughly 33 percent of all downloads on App Store and Google Play. US and India are another large markets for PUBG Cell contributing nearly 11 percent and 8 percent respectively to the participant base.
China does not have a tangible timeline for when it will start approving game licenses, but it is still a big day for whole PUBG corporation and let us not take that away by contrasting the two biggies.
Interestingly, PUBG's mobile revenue staggering figure has emerged a few days after the gaming industry were speculating about the drop in the number of players in PUBG after the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. But after looking at the total revenue, there doesn’t seem to be much impact to the PUBG audience.
Today, PUBG is all set to release news elements like Night mode, Spectator Mode, and Halloween theme, which will surely add some more fun into the Battle Royale game. Before, that, Tencent had added Sanhok map, which was again appreciated by the audience.
