Asus has contributed much to revolutionize the gaming experience with its next generation and powerful desktops. Now, the Taiwanese smartphone and PC maker is all set to enter the gaming smartphone market with a new device. Earlier this year, we have received the gaming smartphones like Xiaomi Black Shark and Razor Phone. Asus will be launching the new smartphone under its ROG brand that seems to be best among all. Asus has handpicked the Snapdragon 845 chip for crafting the most robust gaming device in the mobile world. Moreover, GeekBench’s early benchmark test also proves that the Asus Rog holds the top position in performance. The smartphone follows the traditional ROG design and also comes with advanced accessories for taking the mobile gaming experience to another level.
Asus ROG is the first attempt of the company to step out from its Zenfone series in the smartphone industry. The gaming smartphone has given the design and feel of the ROG desktops by the company. ROG inherits the gaming look that you can see from far. The smartphone has metallic back covered with glass and based on an aluminum frame.
The fingerprint sensor, camera, and the flash modules are located at the back but look nothing like that we have on regular smartphones. You can see the ROG logo placed under the back side of the phone that comes with backlight and you can also change the color of the light. Most of the backside of the smartphone is composed of metallic cut design and sharp looks. On the right side of the phone, you will find two speaker grills. The Asus phone weighs 200 gm which is little heavy, but for a gaming smartphone, it is considerable. The back edges of the Asus ROG phone are curved to make it comfortable while resting in your hand.
In addition to this, you will find two more red colored speakers grills, one at the top of the bezel and other at the bottom. There are two USB-C type ports at the right side of the Asus phone accompanied by the power button and volume key. There is also a Type - C port at the bottom of the phone for charging.
That’s enough talk about how the phone looks, as it is a perfectly designed piece of tech for the gamers and capable of compelling any gaming nerd from far. Now, let's see how much gaming power it owns under the hood for us. Asus ROG has been equipped with Snapdragon 845 chip that is backed by Octa-core Koruo processor. The Asus smartphone maker claims that the chip of ROG is capable of hitting higher clock speed up to 2.9GHz, that is more than other flagship smartphones. Asus has worked closely with Qualcomm for making the chip perfect for the gamers.
The eight Koryo cores and the Adreno 630 Graphic gives immense power to the ROG phone for providing unrivaled gaming experience. In order to make sure that the smartphone battery last for longer the Snapdragon 845 chip automatically reduces the clock speed to manage the workload between the higher performance and power efficient CPU cores. However, this reduction in the clock speed may hinder the gaming experience by producing a lag while playing a game. To avoid such situation, the ROG phone has given ‘X Mode’ that pushes up the minimum clock speed to an optimum level, and the task power generation is confined only to the fastest four cores of the phone to keep the work going. The users can switch ON the X Mode anytime from the Quick settings to give their gaming app a boost.
Talking about the phone’s performance GeekBench has released an early benchmark result of Asus ROG. The report reveals that Asus gaming smartphone leaves behind the other smartphones by a small lead.
The ROG phone sport a 6 inch AMOLED display that comes with 1080 x 2160 pixel resolution. The phone has given the 18:9 aspect ratio that enhances the gaming experience. The Asus smartphone owns a 76.9% screen to body ratio which is quite impressive for a gaming device. Asus said that the ROG’s display refreshes at 90Hz that makes it capable of drawing 50% more frames than other flagship smartphones. The HDR support for display makes the object on the screen looks crystal clear, which is ideal for the gamers. In Spite of being a gaming smartphone, ROG comprises a powerful dual rear camera. There is (12MP + 8MP) camera at the back of the phone that comes with phase detection autofocus and a flash. The front camera of the phone is composed of an 8MP lens.
The processing unit of the smartphone will be supported by 8GB RAM, and it will be available in two variants including 128GB and 512GB internal storage without an expansion support. The Asus ROG phone will be running on Android 8.1 right out of the box.
Believe me, the phone will not cease to amaze you, and the accessories are the best part of the Asus ROG. Along with the phone, the company will be bundling an AeroActive Cooler for the buyers. The Cooler pad will be attached to one of the USB-c type ports and makes the phone processor cooler while you were playing on it for a long time.
The other additional accessories include TwinView Dock that can be used for dual-screen gaming on ROG. The phone sits on the top of the dock, and you can watch movies in one half of the phone while playing a game on the second half. There is also a Gamevice controller that provides the console like buttons to play the game. Remember only AeroActive Cooler will be provided with the phone while other accessories you have to buy separately.
The price and release date of the phone isn't confirmed yet, Asus has only announced that it will be launching the phone in Q3 of 2018. So, we have to wait until then for the smartphone to come out in the light. Besides, Asus ROG is expected to come with a hefty price tag.
Asus ROG is undoubtedly a power-packed gaming smartphone that is hard to challenge. However, we need to wait till it arrives for the detailed review on the phone. But, it is sure that Asus has taken a significant step towards revolutionizing the mobile gaming industry. ROG has next generation accessories and inbuilt hardware support to provide an unrivaled gaming experience without any hiccups. There is no doubt the Asus has made something that will increase the gamers’ heartbeat during the lunch.
